Homework Caddy & Station

My oldest guy is in third grade and WOW do they have a ton of homework these days.  It is very common for him to have three sheets of homework every night {except Friday}.
My boys have desks in their rooms, but I have found that they like to hang out where I am after school and do their homework.  This usually means they are up at the counter top bar working while I am cleaning or cooking in the kitchen.
BUT, since their desks are upstairs, this means all their “office supplies” are up there as well.  So, I decided to make a little Homework Caddy that can tuck in a cabinet in the kitchen.  It has everything they need for homework and is right where we need it.
I included pencils, highlighters, crayons, markers, erasers, a dictionary, glue and scissors.  I picked up the caddy and the dictionary at The Dollar Tree {Thanks, Jenn!}.
Here is the source of the free printable label that I
printed and laminated.

I decided to go a step further and make a little station for them to work at.  I have a little nook in the kitchen that worked perfectly for this.  I just added a little lamp and clock to the area and we were set!

The cabinet above is where the homework caddy goes when they are not using it.

The stool goes back to the kitchen counter after they are done using it.  It doesn’t tuck out of the way, so I can’t leave it in this spot all the time.

Where do your kids usually do their homework?

  1. GREAT idea! My son usually does homework right on the counter in the Kitchen (because that's where I always seem to be!) so I have a “homework box” where I have all his school supplies. I just pull it out in the evenings when he gets home from school. I love the caddy idea though, maybe I'll have to switch it up. I got some caddys like this at Target because I thought I could use them for SOMETHING but they are still sitting there and not being used.. guess now is a good time huh?

  2. Great idea! and OMG I am buying about 3 more because my kids tried to tell me they “couldn't find one” LOL

  3. What a great idea!

  4. Wonderful idea, since I homeschool my 2 little ones, I have something like this for them, but I put it up everyday, I need to just leave it out for my big boys, because they are always asking for pencils, paper etc.

  5. This is such a great idea!! Love it! I am totally doing this when my kids are a little older and have homework! Thanks for sharing at Thursday's Temptation.

  6. Hey, Chrissy,
My son is in 4th grade and does his homework at the desk in the kitchen, usually 2.5 hours per night, except Friday. Weekend homework doesn't start until 5th grade. When we have 17 days off for spring break, it's REALLY well-deserved!

Let me know my deadline in getting the post to you before you go away:-)

  7. Wonderful idea! Not only does it get the homework done, but it is teaching about organization and being prepared! I would love it if you would consider linking to Busy Monday at A Pinch of Joy, a Sunday through Thursday link party for ideas that make life easier, better and more fun!

  8. This is great! Reece does his homework at his desk and we have good organizers there but this caddy is great when he wants to do work elsewhere. Thanks so much for sharing at Mom On Timeout!
