It’s summer and time to play!

This is what my kids think, they would be perfectly happy if I didn’t bother them about reading during these months. Don’t get me wrong, they like to read, just not as much as I think they should. I put together some reading logs for them to track their reading, you can see these over on THIS post. We are signed up at the library reading program, too.

When I had the chance to review the Disney Pixar Leap Frog Brave Tag Book and the Disney Pixar Brave Leap Frog Explorer cartridge, I thought it would be a great opportunity to add some more reading into our summer!

My little guy is six and he is just starting to read on his own. The Leap Frog Tag system is awesome for allowing him to read a book without help. He loved this story, it has bears, witches and a girl with red hair who uses a bow and arrow! Even though the main character was a girl, he was hooked because of the story!

Brave is a Read-your-own book, which means that it has a more complex story line and vocabulary. He would listen to each page being read to him and then go back and touch the words to read it himself. Several of the pages also provided games and interactive opportunities. He especially like the archery word building challenge at the back of the book.

If you don’t have a Tag system, you should look into it. They are great with helping kids sound out words that they don’t know or have forgotten. It is really easy for my son to use too, he doesn’t need much for help when he uses it. We still have our reading time together throughout the day and at night, but he loves that he is able to “read alone” with the Tag system!

Leap Frog was extremely generous and we also got to try the Disney Pixar Brave Leapster Explorer cartridge. Honestly, I wondered if he would like this game. I mean, Merida is cute, but she is still a girl! He loved the game though, the first time I gave it to him to play, he played it for an hour! He loves the archery in the game! What boy wouldn’t?! He learned what he needed to do in order to shoot arrows and hit a target.

He really loves this game and has asked to play it several times since we have gotten it.

We haven’t seen the movie yet, but my little guy really wants to make sure we see it now.

My husband, father in law and I took all three children (boy 6; twin girls almost 4) to see the movie Brave, and EVERYONE loved it. My son HAD to have the LeapPad game(even though Merida is a princess)… He loves that as well Happy to follow “The Taylor House” via the Naptime Review!
