Mom, I’m Bored! Jar of Ideas

How can kids get bored so quickly?  My boys are usually great, they will read, play, help with chores and play with friends.  But, there are days where they just really can’t come up with things to do.  I have seen alot of these “I’m Bored” Jars around the net and decided to put one together for my kids.

Mom, Im Bored! Jar of Ideas

I started out with printing ideas of things to do.

Here is the list of ideas that I came up with:
Make Sugar Cookies
Watch a Movie
Research a President
Play Leap Frog
Play a Board Game
Write a letter to a relative
Call Grandma or Nana
Go on a bike ride
Make a fort in the basement
{I’m sure they will go through these ideas quickly and I will need to come up with more, if you have suggestions please leave them!}

I made this little framed note to site beside the jar with a catchy quote on it.

I also printed the ideas on a patterned card stock, so when you fold it, you see a cute paper.
What are your kids doing this summer?  Any fun new ideas?  I would love to hear them!!

  1. What a cute idea…thanks for sharing

  2. Great idea, I need a jar like this! Today my boys entertained themselves with Balloon Volleyball by setting up a “net” of pillows on the floor then bopping the balloon back and forth. Lots of laughs!

  3. Fabulous idea! I will for sure implement this idea when my girls are older and get to the “bored” stage.
As a teacher, this is a great idea for a classroom with those who finish their school work early. Ideas could include, write a poem, make a puzzle (crossword, wordsearch, maze), write a song, draw a picture about…, write a story, make a comic, etc.
    Thanks for posting!

  4. This is super cute Chrissy! Have the kids dug into yet? :)

  5. what a fabulous idea! i know a little person that could use that! thanks for sharing this cool idea! gotta try it!

  6. Wonderful idea, I am going to make one right now! Because I am already hearing I have nothing to do and I say REALLY! I can put you to work :-) So glad I have you as a crafty friend, because I wouldnt think of these things!

  7. I definitely need one of those! I'm hosting a linky party “One Creative Weekend” at OneCreativeMommy.com. I'd love for you to visit and link up this idea and/or anything else you'd like to share.

  8. Hi Chrissy! I clicked over to say hello, from Pamela's Heavenly Treats. What a lovely blog you have here! I love this idea of the I'm Bored jar. A friend of mine was doing this with her kids a while back and I ended up crafting the idea of “great job!” and “that's not okay” jars for rewards and disciplines. It's been successful with my girls, but only when I'm consistent with it. Sometimes life gets hectic and I find myself doling out reward or discipline without the use of the jars. For ideas in the I'm bored jar, the things that come to mind are: run through the sprinkler, have a water fight, go to the library, call a friend to chat, write and illustrate your own little story book. (My girls love doing that – they get so creative!)

So nice to connect with you!

    Blessings,
    ~Rosann
