Donating School Supplies with Bag It Forward!

Summer is going so fast!  That means kids will be back in school before we know it!  Many of us are already buying new clothes and school supplies in preparation for the first day!

This year I am so excited to be participating in a Bag It Forward program through Elmer’s.

Have you heard of Bag It Forward?

It is a really neat!  Elmer’s is working hard to inspire others to purchase extra school supplies, while you are out shopping, and donate them to a child or teacher who is in need of them.  Walmart has their supplies at amazingly low prices, so spending an extra few bucks would give you a bag full of supplies to donate!

There are so many children who need people to help them have the proper tools to succeed in school.  Where do they get the supplies when their families just can’t afford to buy them?

We all know that there are so many teachers who spend money out of their own pocket to provide these supplies for students who do not have what they need.

Fact:
Teachers spend an average of $356 of their own money on supplies and resources for their classroom.

The Bag it Forward program is very easy to participate in.  Simply pick up some extra school supplies and find a child or teacher who can use them!  How simple is that?!

Another feature that Walmart has is the Elmer’s School supply list display.  If you need a list for your own child, want to find a specific teacher to donate to, or a grade to donate to; you can easily find it on this display at the front of the store.

Elmer’s has also added a feature to the display this year to help out!  They have a NEW app for smartphone’s that can be downloaded in the store by scanning the QR code on the back of the school supply display.

The Elmer’s First Day app allows you to take pictures of you little cuties on their first day of school or during special events and then create captions and organize the photos in an album.

What else is so cool about this?

For every picture taken with the 1st day app,  Elmer’s will donate one product to the Kids in Need Foundation, an organization that distributes free school supplies to students whose families can’t afford them.  Elmer’s is proud to help out with a donation of up to 200,000 products!  How amazing is that?!

As soon as I heard about this program, I wanted to participate.  My little guy had a FABULOUS teacher last year and I thought she would be perfect to put a bag together for.  She is a kindergarten teacher, so we know that they use alot of supplies!  You can view our shopping trip over HERE.

We put together a fun basket full to the brim with supplies, a cute jar with pencils for her desk and even included a little banner on the front.  You can print your own over at Eighteen25!

  1. What a great basket of supplies!

  2. Tons of good stuff! I love the bag it forward program, it's such a great cause.

  3. This is a fantastic idea. Thank you for sharing. Found you via Stephanie Chan on Pinterest. I will be doing this with my children for a local school. I guess I'd better get started…. So many great deals out there! (my children are fortunate not to have to buy their supplies. Teachers buy them and we pay them once school starts. That way every child gets the same supplies.)
