Ten Tips for Dealing with Dust Mite Allergies

Does your family struggle with allergies?

My kids, hubby and myself all have pet, seasonal and dust mite allergies.  Which means it is common for one or all of us to be congested, coughing, itchy, yucky messes.  If you have allergies, you know that it is absolutely miserable so here is my list of ten tips for dealing with allergies.

Ten Tips for Dealing with Dust Mite Allergies

1.  Wash bed linens at least once a week in hot (130 degrees or higher) water.

2.  Buy new pillows every six months.

3.  If possible remove carpeting in your home, dust mites thrive in carpeting.  Use throw rugs that can be washed instead.

4.  If you cannot remove carpeting be sure to steam clean carpet on a regular basis.

5.  Get rid of stuffed animals, they are are big sources of dust mites.

6.  Use pillow covers that are specifically for allergies.

7.  When you clean and dust, use a product that actually picks up and removes the dust from objects.

8.  Keep knick knacks and display objects to a minimum, they attract dust and are sometimes hard to get really cleaned.

9.  We spend 1/3 of our life sleeping, take the extra time to keep your room dust free.  Keep pets away from where you sleep.

10.  Invest in a Air filtration or purifying system.  I was fortunate to have the opportunity to review this Fellows AP 300PH Air Purifier recently and I have been very impressed!

Here is a little about the purifier:
  • PlasmaTrue™ Technology removes airborne pollutants and gets air cleaner at the molecular level, instantly neutralizing viruses and germs in the air
  • True HEPA Filter safely removes 99.97% of particles and impurities as small as 0.3 microns, including mold spores, pollen, dust mites, allergens, cigarette smoke, pet dander and odors
  • Air purifier includes an air purity sensor that monitors the air quality and automatically adjusts the fan speed to keep your air cleaner
I have noticed that my bedroom is less dusty, I usually felt like I could dust the room every other day, and now it is closer to a ten days.  The air purifier has really made a difference with that!

Another reason that I really like this air purifier is the simple sleek design.  It fits nicely against the wall in my room and doesn’t stick out and take away from the decor of the room.
