Kitchen Organization tips

My boys started back to school this week, so what did I do?
Cleaned and organized my kitchen!!
Well, I did alot of other things too, but I was so glad to get my kitchen under control after the summer!
I am actually following a 14 week program on
Home Organization 101with A Bowl Full of Lemons.
If you haven’t seen her blog, it is amazing and so inspiring!

Here is the organizing schedule if you would like to join in too!

 Week 1 The Kitchen
I didn’t take any before photos, which is a bummer because things were a disaster!  I was so excited to get into this project, by the time I remembered pictures, I was nearly done.

Let’s start with counters!

I loved the cutting board on the counter over at A Bowl Full of Lemons so I tried to recreate her look and picked up one for myself at Home Goods this week.  I have already used it several times and love having it out and handy!
Here is the other side of the kitchen.  Can you tell that I don’t like clutter on my counters?
To the left of the sink, I have my hand soap and lotion.

On the right side of the sink is  a bowl with my Norwex scrubbie.

In the corner of the counter space is an old scale with my Salt, Pepper and tooth picks on top.
I love this stand, I got it years ago and it has been one of my favorite decor/functional pieces in my kitchen.
Another tip that I picked up from A Bowl Full Of Lemons is creating a coffee area on your counter.

 On to the cabinets!
This is my least favorite cabinet in my kitchen, because it has the stove top “guts” inside that takes up so much room!
I have divided it in half with pots and pans on the right and my Kitchen Aid mixer on the left.  I like to keep my mixer in the cabinet, even though I end up getting it out several times a week.  If I had a red or stainless mixer that matched my kitchen better, I would probably leave it out.
This is the glasses and mugs cabinet.
I have come across the idea of creating a lunch drawer on several sites.  This drawer has napkins, silverware, sandwich and apple cutter and brown paper bags.
My boys cups and water bottles are in a drawer down low for them to have easy access.
This cabinet to the left of our sink has every day plates, napkins and paper plates.
I also have a huge cabinet dedicated to all my fun plates.  I love these, I have so many color combination options!
The spice cabinet, I used a step type stand inside to elevate the spices in the back.  This way I can see all of the easier.
The food pantry cabinet.  It is always a mess!!  I have had bins inside for sorting and labeling but it seems to get out of control all the time!
These are my favorite labels!  You can find them at Better Homes and Garden when you can personalize and print your own!
Here are my last two cabinets with alot of my “fancy” plates and serving pieces.  I also have my boys Homework caddy and my own caddy in this one.
Another drawer with all of my baking bowls, measuring cups and my hand mixer.  I use these items regularly as well, so they are easy to access.
The last part of my kitchen organizing that I have to share is my cleaning plan.  I got this idea from I Heart Organizing and created my own. During the summer, I did not use this at all, but I am so glad to be back on a regular plan.

  2. Looks great Chrissy! We have that exact same dinosaur sandwich cutter :)

  3. Super fantastic post! So inspiring, I will check out all the links and want to follow the lists, too! I am following you on GFC. I love your kitchen, it looks great. But I have to tell you, being a person that likes to put out knock knacks and pretties on my counters, it always makes me cringe when people call it “clutter” LOL! Don't get me wrong, I love your clean uncluttered look :)
    Blessings,
    Susie
