10 Things You Didn’t Know Your Microwave Could Do

1. Enjoy tear free onions.
Cut the ends off of your onions and zap them on high for 20-30 seconds. When you go to peel and cut them, you will find less eye burning fumes. Whew!

2. Soften brown sugar.
Did you bag of brown sugar go hard? If so, add a wet napkin to the bag, close it, and heat on high for 30 seconds. The moisture will help soften the brown sugar for easy use.

3. Clean your microwave with ease.
Place some vinegar in a microwave safe bowl and heat it for 2 minutes. The liquid will cause a grime fighting steam that makes messes easy to wipe clean.

4. Dry your own herbs.
Don’t pay for expensive dried herbs. Instead, press fresh herbs between paper towels and microwave on high for five minutes. Remove and turn into crumbles. Store in an air tight container.

5. Relieve sore muscles.
Soak a washcloth in a mixture of water and Epsom salts. Ring out and place in the microwave for 1 minute or until warm. Remove and apply to sore muscles for natural relief.

6. Soften bread.
If your bread seems on the hard side, wrap a damp paper towel around it and heat it on high for 30 seconds. It is sure to soften right up.

7. Peel produce easily.
Fruits and veggies will peel easily when you heat them on high for 90 seconds. Let them cool and then peel. You will notice how easy the job now is.

8. Toast your own nuts.
Toast nuts for recipes easily and without the use of a stove. Just place the nuts as well as a sprinkling of spices on a paper plate. Cover them with a paper towel and heat for 30 seconds at a time until toasty.

9. Crunch up stale chips.
Did someone leave the bag of chips open? Place them on a plate and cover them with a paper towel. Heat for 1 minute. The towel will absorb the moisture and make them crispy again.

10. Remove grime from dirty dishes.
Especially dirty dishes can have a paper towel that has been soaked with lemon juice and vinegar in them. Heat on high for one minute. Let the dish get covered with the steam from the towel, then rinse clean.

See how practical and purposeful your microwave can be? Give these tips a try and you will never look at it the same again!

If I put fruits or veggies in my microwave for 90 seconds, I’m expecting it would probably sound like firecrackers going off and the pressure would probably peel the fruit for me.
