Moving is a major, stressful life event- make it a little less so by being prepared- before, during, and after the move. Keeping everything organized will make it a smoother process. Here are 10 tips to help you do just that.
10 Tips for Moving
Make a to do list– Keep everything you need in one place for easy access- Write down the numbers of utilities in your current home and future home along with scheduled shut off/turn on dates. Movers number if you are using one, the children’s school, etc. Keep it in a handy spot anytime you need to reference and contact someone. Create a checklist for each step of the move.
Get Boxes– Gather lots of boxes, more than you think you will need. Good, sturdy boxes can be found at the grocery store or liquor stores for free. Make sure you label them well, this will make it easy for the movers (or friends and family) to place them in the correct room which in turn makes unpacking easier. Lay in stock of packing tape and newspaper for wrapping breakables too.
Recruit Friends– Get friends and family to help you with packing, cleaning, and the big move. Provide a big outdoor BBQ and refreshment in exchange for hard labor.
Purge before moving– There is no sense in packing and moving items that you have no intention of keeping. Prior to packing sort items for donation and items for selling. Have a yard sale or sell on a site like Craigslist. Whatever is left can go to Goodwill or somewhere similar- it will be much less work and less stressful to start with a clean slate.
Research the area– Find out where the closest grocery store, bank convenient store, library, gym, pharmacy, and other places you frequent are. Even if you are just moving across the city but especially if it is a cross country move you will want to make it a smooth transition. Transfer prescriptions, close and move bank accounts if necessary, cancel gym membership,etc.. prior to the move.
Label all your cords– Use painters tape or masking tape to wrap around cords, label each one with the item it belongs to. This will save you massive headache later on when you go to hook up your sound system or computer.
Clean Kitchen and Bath at new place– Give it a good scrub prior to moving in so it feels like home and is move in ready. You will probably want to unpack these two rooms first. Set up an air purifier several hours to move in to clean and freshen the air, we really like the Venta Airwasher!
We had the Venta Airwasher set up in our home for a week before we moved in, when we actually started to live there I noticed that the air wasn’t stale and it really seemed a lot cleaner!
The Venta Airwasher is a 24-hour-a-day, 7-days-a-week, 365-days-a-year product. Our revolutionary cold evaporation humidification method ensures that it will never overhumidify your home. Your Airwasher does not force moisture into the air as other humidifiers do. When your room air is perfectly hydrated, it will simply stop taking moisture, and your unit will continue its purification of your environment.

Change of Address– You will want to put this in about 10-14 days prior to moving. It can take a little while to get it switched over and while the mail may get ahead of you there won’t be so much left behind.
Get a sitter– Moving is hard enough without kids constantly pulling things out of boxes and “helping” in general. Enlist someone to take them to the park for the day, or to lunch and the movies so you won’t be worried about where they are or getting into.
Pack essentials separately– Be sure and keep your everyday clothes, a couple pairs of shoes, and toiletries in their own special spot, waiting for the last minute. You don’t want to be tearing apart boxes looking for your favorite hoodie. Pack them in clear bags or boxes to make it easy.
More Information about Venta Airwasher
The only needed daily maintenance for your Venta Airwasher is to fill it with water. Nothing needs to be emptied! We recommend establishing a regular time each day for “Airwasher watering”, so it becomes a part of your daily routine. Or add it to your weekly cleaning schedule calendar so it’s part of that weekly routine.
Putting the Venta Airwasher together and getting it running was simple, it literally took a couple minutes and we were up and going.
One of the great things about the system is that it’s so quiet, it’s running in our living room and I never notice it. I don’t have to turn the T.V. up louder or talk louder, it’s so quiet. To see how the Venta Airwasher works check out this video.
In order for your Airwasher to establish a steady moisture level in your home, we ask that you run the Airwasher around the clock for 7-10 days on the highest setting after you receive it.
