4 Tips For Multitasking in the Kitchen

October 22, 2020   |   Leave a Comment

When working in the kitchen, there are several simple tips you can use for multitasking in the kitchen. Whether you are preparing a meal or trying to get your kitchen to look spotless, follow the four helpful tips below to get a good idea of what you can do to begin multitasking like a pro.

4 Tips For Multitasking in the Kitchen

Clean Different Areas While Cooking

Start cleaning different parts of the kitchen while you cook a meal for the family. Instead of feeling like you are waiting for water to boil, vegetables to saute, and meat to simmer, you can have all this going on while cleaning at the same time. For example, while you have water in a pot on the stovetop that needs to come to a boil, start scrubbing some of the dirty dishes in the sink that you might have had to use to prep your meal. You might want to sweep the kitchen floor and wipe down countertops, too.

Prepare Food on the Stovetop While Baking Other Items

If you prepare a meal that requires baking meat and cooking some of the sides on the stovetop, start to prepare these items simultaneously. You can have the meat baking in the oven while boiling your pasta, potatoes, or vegetables that you plan to serve on the side. During this time, while your food is in the oven, you can also add ingredients together to complete your sides, such as pouring some sauce over spaghetti or adding milk, butter, and salt to your potatoes to make mashed potatoes. This tip will really help you with multitasking in the kitchen.

Preheat Your Oven While Waiting For Water to Boil

Get started with cooking by preheating your oven while you wait for the water to boil in a pot. You can get the water ready in the pot, set the flame on your stovetop, and then work on getting your oven to the proper temperature by adjusting the settings on it. If you are working on more than one thing, you can get more done within the same timeframe or even save some extra time.

Get Rid of Expired Food While Cleaning the Fridge

When you want to wipe down your fridge to get it looking clean again, the best thing you can do is start checking leftovers and getting rid of anything that has expired. Because you are already cleaning the fridge, taking care of the old food helps you create more space inside of it. Once you get rid of that old food and have finished cleaning the fridge, you can move on over to the sink to start cleaning the containers you used to hold those unfinished leftovers.

Multitasking in the kitchen will help you get more done in less time. Instead of waiting until after you prepare a meal to wash your dishes, you can wash them while you have the food cooking in the oven or on the stovetop. Simple multitasking tips like this will make your life that much easier as you focus solely on getting things done and staying as organized as you can. How do you spend time multitasking in the kitchen?
