5 Foods to Buy on a Budget

September 22, 2020   |   Leave a Comment

Do you have a tight budget to stick to? If grocery shopping normally costs you way more than you want to spend, try to avoid the unnecessary items and purchase the following foods that are great to have in your kitchen. The following foods will help you prepare different meals and keep your stomach full without overspending. Check out these foods to buy on a budget.

Pasta

You cannot go wrong with having several boxes of pasta in the kitchen. Many grocery stores sell pasta packages for $1 or less, and a little bit of it goes such a long way. In addition to traditional pasta, some brands offer whole grain and veggie options that are even healthier yet still affordable. You can make homemade macaroni and cheese, spaghetti with meat sauce, pasta salad, and more. This is one of the easiest foods to buy on a budget.

Ground Beef

If you eat meat, ground beef is worth buying in bulk while it is on sale. The reason to purchase ground beef is that you can use it in many recipes, including shepherds pie, meatballs, hamburgers, spaghetti with meat sauce, and stuffed peppers. When buying ground beef by the pound, it is often most affordable to get at least five pounds or more. Look around at different grocery stores in your area to see which one has the lowest price for ground beef.

Canned or Frozen Veggies Fruits and Veggies

While fresh fruits and veggies are great, they can go bad quickly and tend to cost a lot. When you need to stick to a budget, buying canned or frozen fruits and vegetables is ideal. You may find special deals on canned vegetables where you can get one can for 50 cents or less. Grocery stores often have sales on frozen fruits and vegetables, too. Once you buy them, you can store them in your freezer until you are ready to use them instead of worrying about them going bad.

Eggs

If you buy eggs while they are on sale, you can do so much with them. You may want to scramble them and eat them with toast, make stuffed omelets with cheese, hard boil them and eat them as a snack, or even prepare homemade fried rice with them. Eggs are a great source of protein and are easy to prepare. You can store them in the fridge to keep them fresh.

Brown Rice

Buying a bulk bag of brown rice is ideal because rice can fill you up faster and makes for the perfect side dish to different entrees, including baked fish, chicken, and even a stir fry. Brown rice is good for your heart, and it helps you digest your food at a steady pace. You can add more flavor to it by using soy sauce or sriracha sauce on the rice.

When you must stick to a budget, these are five foods to purchase from the grocery store. Check the sales pages for different grocery stores to find out which one is having the best sales and then stock up on these essential food items. What are your favorite foods to buy on a budget?
