I recently got back from my red carpet premiere of Christopher Robin. If you’ve been following along, you know I interviewed stars like Hayley Atwell and Ewan McGregor. Both were fabulous to interview! However, when you get to interview Bronte Carmichael, you know you’re going to really get the inside scoop.
Kids have a way of viewing things differently than adults and I was excited about this aspect. Interviewing 11-year-old Bronte Carmichael was a great highlight of my trip that I won’t soon forget.
In case you’re wondering who Bronte is, she played Christopher Robin’s daughter in the movie. Bronte played the character Madeline and she did an excellent job. Although I have children of my own, I’ve never interviewed a younger “star” before. I’m sure she was just as nervous as I was.
The interview with Bronte was so unique because she is still a child. Okay, she is more of a pre-teen, but kids see things so differently than us. I knew I was going to get to see things the way she saw them in the movie.
Who is Bronte’s favorite character?
As you have followed along in the interviews, you’ve noticed we asked this question a lot. I was so excited to hear who Bronte’s favorite character is. I wasn’t the least bit surprised when she went to tell us who her favorite Winnie the Pooh character is.
I like them all. Like, you can’t really like one, ’cause they all have different personalities, they act just like, almost like emotions. Like Eeyore can be gloomy, sometimes you can feel like Eeyore, sometimes you can feel like Tigger, like really bouncy. But you know, I quite like Piglet. And at the end of shooting it, they gave me a Piglet to take home.
Her answer is so true! You can’t really pick one because they all bring their own flare. I have a different character each time I see the movie. I may or may not have seen the movie at least 4-5 times by now. It just never gets old.
Which Winnie the Pooh character is Bronte most like?
I love this question! We can all relate to characters in shows and movies, especially in the movie Christopher Robin. As a young actor, I figured Bronte could relate a lot to the Winnie the Pooh characters. Of course, her answer did not disappoint.
I’m sometimes like a mix of all of them. The most, I think I’m either like Piglet or Tigger. So Piglet, sometimes I can be nervous about some things, especially with acting. There are certain things that can like scare you, they can be certain takes that you aren’t that confident on, you can feel like Piglet sometimes. And when when you’re Tigger, you can be really excited about something. Like I was definitely excited about coming to Disneyland when I, while I was in LA, so you know, I felt like Tigger.
What was Bronte’s favorite scene to film?
I have never been in a movie, but I figured Bronte had to have a favorite scene or two. Being in a movie when you’re only 11 has to be a big deal. I was curious to see what her answer for this question was. When asked what her favorite scene to film was she had the best answer.
I quite liked all the action scenes. Like the bit where I did my own stunt where I tripped, and I also liked the cycling as well; it was really fun.
I trip all the time and don’t get paid for it, so maybe she is on to something. In all seriousness, I love that she can laugh about her parts in the movie. She is such a fun person and so full of life.
Finally, my favorite part of the interview.
I LOVED that we got to ask Bronte this next question. We asked her “what advice would you give other child actors or children in acting?” Her answer was so raw but so simple!
I’d just say be as natural as you can and don’t let things get in the way of you. You just let it flow, you know, just be there in the moment when you’re filming.
Another favorite part of the interview was discovering that Bronte had written all those handwritten notes, in the movie. She has wonderful handwriting, but this was also an incredibly personal touch to add to the movie.
Also, when asked what her favorite food was, her answer was priceless!
I don’t like one specific food, I like lots of different foods. But the foods I ate quite a lot during filming Christopher Robin, besides like craft services and the really nice food they did, I had a lot of noodles. I like noodles a lot.
I have to say that I also like food a lot and noodles are always a favorite on my plate and my kids’.
I was also able to find out what Bronte does when she’s not acting. While I’m sure she adores acting, it’s always lovely to have something to do outside of “work.”
I play a lot with my sister and I like fun action games. I like making up games and like using things that I already have, turning them into stuff, and like exaggerating and turning that into something else.
The interview with Bronte was so sweet! She was a gem in answering all of our questions. I think everyone can relate to Bronte Carmichael in some way. I also think she did an excellent job in the movie and it was an honor to be able to interview her.
