Back to School Lunch Ideas
Who’s ready for their kids to head back to school? I have to admit, the summer has went too fast and I’m one of those Mom’s that’s just not ready to send them back. I wish there was one more month, but then I’d probably want another after that. So, it’s time to start planning, preparing and generally getting into the school mode.
All of the school supplies have been bought, new clothes hanging in the closet along with the fresh new shoes and backpacks waiting to head out the door in just a couple short weeks.
Everything is ready and I’ve started to make a menu of all the back to school lunch ideas that I can think of. My youngest always takes his lunch but quickly gets tired of the plain old sandwich each day so we try to think of new ideas to keep him excited and eating lunch each day.
Today we have five easy lunch ideas that your kids will love!
Back to School Lunch Ideas
Lunch #1: Apple Cookies
These are a great alternative to peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, load your apple slices with peanut butter, raisins and other fixings to make a yummy apple cookie.
What We Included in this Lunch:
Apple Cookies
Blueberries
Horizon Cheddar Sandwich Crackers
We sent our son out the door with Horizon Organic Milk in every lunch, it’s a brand that we trust to have products with simple ingredients that are easy to identify. This takes the worry out of knowing what our kids are eating.
Lunch #2: Turkey & Cheese with Crackers
This lunch is one of my sons favorites, he can stack the up the crackers with cheese and make them into mini sandwiches. This ends up being like the store bought boxed lunch but for a much lower price plus you can add the products that you know and trust.
What We Include in this Lunch:
Sliced Colby Cheese
Turkey lunch meat rolls
Crackers
Carrot Sticks
Grapes
Horizon Organic Lowfat Milk
Lunch #3: Cucumber with Tuna Salad
I have to be honest, most of the time when I make this lunch for my son is because I want to have it myself. It’s so easy to make a batch in the morning that the kids can take in their lunch but that my husband and I can enjoy for lunch at home as well. It’s a win for both of us!
What We Include in this Lunch:
Sliced Cucumbers
Tuna Salad: This is a can of tuna mixed with two tablespoons of Mayo
Blueberries
Horizon Peanut Butter Sandwich Crackers
Horizon Organic Lowfat Milk
Lunch #4: Pizza & Cheese Crackers
This is the lunch that my son probably ends up taking the most because he can pack it himself pretty easily. He loves pepperoni too so he can pack extra. We tend to use Turkey Pepperoni because he likes it better but you could use either type.
What We Include in this Lunch
Sliced Pepperoni
Colby Cheese, sliced
Crackers
Sliced Cucumbers
Blueberries
Horizon Organic Lowfat Milk
Lunch #5: Simple Salad
If your kids are salad eaters, sending it for lunch is a great idea. A bag of salad will make several school lunch’s for the kids and they can add the toppings that they love. My little guy only puts cheese and cucumber on his and doesn’t even like salad dressing while the older boy loads his salad with cheese and ranch. I’m pretty sure he’s trying to cover up as much of the veggies as he can!
What We Include in this Lunch
Lettuce
Salad toppings of choice: we used cucumbers, cheese, ham, Horizon Cheddar Sandwich Crackers
Apple
Beef Stick
Horizon Organic Lowfat Milk
One way that I know my kids are getting nutrients that they need in their lunch is by adding in Horizon Organic Lowfat Milk. Since they’re huge milk drinkers, I know that they’re going to drink every last drop and fuel their body for the rest of the school day!
