Blake is back with the best things to do in Phoenix from a tween boys perspective. I think he’s spot on with this article and have my own list of five reasons to visit Phoenix that’s pretty similar! If you’re thinking about things to do with kids over spring break or winter break, check into Phoenix and everything it has to offer!
Hey, guys! Blake here was another fun article about the BEST things to do in Phoenix, Arizona! I’ve been to Phoenix four times in my 12 years, which sounds like a lot but my Grandparents go there in the winter and we like to visit them since they’re gone for almost five months out of the year. I guess it’s a great place for people who are retired to have vacation homes and that also makes it a great place for Grandkids to go visit!
Here’s a list of my favorite things that we’ve done when visiting Phoenix over the years. Be sure to check them out when you have your own visit!
The BEST Things to do in Phoenix
- Camelback Mountain Hiking Trail
The mountain is a very steep mountain on the outside of Phoenix Arizona. The reason why I enjoy the mountain is that most of it is in paved, but has handrails all the way up it. This is not your ordinary hiking trail, we’ve tried it a couple times and have never made it to the top. It’s hard! I remember the first time, we thought we were going to make it in our flip flops and no water with us. It was a bad idea, to say the least!
I love the challenge of this hike though, you climb over rocks and up steep cliffs. There’s nothing like it in Iowa! We’ll keep trying to make it to the top, maybe someday we’ll leave Mom behind and make it (just kidding, Mom!)
- Bobby Q’s
Besides being one of the best barbecues ever, they’re also home to the coolest donut maker ever. When your done eating they give you complimentary sugar donuts and you can watch them make. This was a place that my Grandpa recommended so we gave it a try. He said they had really good BBQ but he forgot to tell us that it was the BEST around!
At the front of the restaurant is a donut machine, when you are leaving they give each person a little bag of cinnamon and sugar mini donuts to take with them. I CRAVE those little buggers to this day! I can’t wait to get back to Phoenix just to visit Bobby Q’s!
- Superstition Mountains
The superstition mountains are pretty cool but it’s not the mountain that so cool it’s the area around the mountain. There’s an old mining town set up where you can stop and visit shops and take photos. When we drove up into superstition on our last visit we actually saw a waterfall – in the dessert!! How crazy is that?!
My Grandparents have a place in Mesa, AZ and this is a pretty quick drive from their home. We’ve visited Superstition a couple times now and always have a lot of fun!
- Wildlife World Zoo
This zoo is actually in Litchfield which is just a short drive from my Grandparents place in Mesa. It’s one of the coolest Zoo’s that I’ve been to! Not only is there tons of different animals to see but there are some rides too! Plus there’s a great restaurant, Dillon’s that has fish tanks with sharks to watch while you eat! The BBQ is pretty good too!
I added this to my favorite list because there are so many different things a family can do, you’ll be surprised how much time you’ll spend at Wildlife World Zoo!
