Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe and Tips

Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe and Tips
Chocolate chip cookie recipe, tips on making chocolate chip cookies, printable cookie tag

One of my absolute favorite things to bake is Chocolate Chip Cookies!  I really feel that making cookies is a skill that you have to really work at to get it right, but with a few tips and tricks anyone can make that perfect cookie!

Here is the recipe that I use.

Ingredients:

1/2 Cup Butter, softened
12 Cup Shortening
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
or 1 cup chips and 1 cup mini M&M’s
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
2. Cream together the butter, white sugar, and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Stir in flour salt, baking soda, and chips. Drop by large spoonfuls onto ungreased pans.
3. Bake for about 8 minutes in the preheated oven, or until edges are nicely browned.

Tips for PERFECT Chocolate Chip Cookies:

One of the first tips that I have is from a good friend {Thanks, Tami!}! Use half butter and half shortening.  I swear by this method now, it makes the cookie have a perfect texture!

Pull the cookies out of the oven when they still look like they need a minute to cook.  Let them finish baking on the cookie sheet!

Use a timer!  Seriously, people!  If I don’t use a timer, I over bake them EVERY time!  I get distracted doing something else!

I love giving away some of my baked treats to people, otherwise we end up eating them WAY too fast!  I found this cute little printable tag over at This website and added it to a package of cookies that I had stacked a dozen of in a treat bag.

Can’t wait to try the 1/2 shortening and 1/2 butter tip! Just thought I’d let you know that the / didn’t show up for work in the 1/2 cup shortening – naturally only a simpleton wouldn’t know it meant 1/2 and not 12 cups, but as a busy as a bee blogger who has had this sort of thin happen to her more than once – I thought I’d just let you know.

I’m always VERY thankful when people point out when a letter pulls a “no show” or when an extra one shows up, uninvited!

Your website is beautiful, your pictures are gorgeous, and your recipes are out of this world. You obviously put A LOT of work into all of this and it shows. I’ve been pinning your recipes left and right!

I love baked goods as treats! I have to give my treats away so I don't eat them too. 🙂
