Do you use coconut oil on your hair? If you don’t, you totally should be!! We love coconut oil at the Taylor House (check out other uses for it!). We have found a great new way to use coconut oil for a hair moisture treatment! It’s simple and leaves your hair smelling amazing! We use Nutiva coconut oil and get it for a pretty reasonable price on Amazon so be sure to check it out over there!

Coconut Oil Hair Treatment

In a desperate search to find a cure for my brittle hair, I came across a few articles recommending coconut oil for hair as a moisture treatment.

The more I read I found that coconut oil is the oil our hair can absorb better than any other.  If you would like to read some great articles on the benefits of using coconut oil for hair, here are some of my favorites: essentious.com and miracle-of-coconut-oil.com.

Coconut oil is meant to be used as a “Pre-Washing” Moisture Treatment. I will walk you through the simple steps for giving your hair that pure moisture it is thirsting for in the recipe and instructions below!

Ingredients:
½ cup Aloe Gel
½ cup Coconut Oil
20 Drops Rosemary Essential OIl

Instructions:
Mix Coconut Oil and Aloe gel in a small dish.
Add 20 drops of Rosemary essential oil.
Stir well.
Use a basting type brush so that you can “paint” the hair cream onto the scalp. Make sure to get the roots and paint down to the ends of the hair if desired.
Once you have placed the cream on the hair, twist it up into a bun or something easy and allow the mixture to sit for 5 minutes.
Thoroughly wash your hair with your regular daily shampoo. (You may want to double wash to remove all remaining hair cream from the scalp.)
Dry and style as you would normally, and feel the silky softness of your hair!

The Rosemary Essential Oil can be changed to other essential oil scents if you prefer something else! I’ve tried lavender when I do this coconut oil hair treatment in the evening before bed and love it!

Hair Care Tips

Use a t-shirt when drying your hair. They are soft and much less abrasive than a towel. Or purchase a hair towel that’s made just for drying hair!

If you want your hair to grow faster stimulate your scalp! Massage your scalp for 5 minutes every day. It will increase the blood flow and help your hair grow faster!

Use shampoos and conditioners that DO NOT contain harmful ingredients! Become familiar with the bad ingredients and make sure to check the labels before you make a purchase! I’ve found that the natural shampoos and conditioners leave my hair feeling much better and they usually don’t have such strong smells.
