Cooking With Kids: Protein Smoothie For Kids

February 16, 2014   |   7 Comments

As a Mom of two active boys, I’m always looking for quick and easy recipes to get nutrition in their diets. It’s especially important in the morning to get them out the door with a Delicious Breakfast that will fuel their little bodies until lunch time.

Finding Healthy Smoothie Recipes that don’t have strawberries and a few of the fruits that my son dislikes isn’t always the easiest. He certainly loves peanut butter and chocolate so this recipe was a win!

This Protein Smoothie For Kids is exactly what they need to get their morning starting off on the right!

How To Make a Protein Smoothie for Kids

Ingredients

  • 1 Banana
  • 1 Tablespoon Ricotta Cheese
  • 1 Tablespoon Peanut Butter
  • 1 Teaspoon Cocoa Powder
  • 1 Cup Coconut Milk
  • 1 Cup Ice

Instructions

This Protein Smoothie For Kids is so delicious and simple to make that you can make it with your kids.  They will love helping and being involved with making their breakfast or snack!

Step 1 – Break the banana into pieces and place in the blender.

Step 2 – Add your peanut butter to the blender, my son “measured” our peanut butter by adding a heaping spoonful of the peanut butter.  This doesn’t have to be exact.

Step 3 – Add the ricotta cheese, cocoa powder and coconut milk and blend for a few seconds

Step 4 – Add the ice last and blend for 30 seconds or until all the ice and everything if fully blended together into a smoothie consistency.  Enjoy!

Can you store these? Two would be too many for us, but it’s be nice to keep for the next day.

Can you substitute the ricotta for cottage cheese or the coconut milk for almond milk or homo milk and will still taste good?

Hi, Pam! I’ve not tried making them that way, but I would give it a try!

My 2.5 year old and I made this shake today and he loved it. Thanks for the great recipe! We have an immersion blender that can’t handle ice, so I used a frozen banana instead. This worked just fine.

I am allergic to dairy and my family doesn’t eat it. What would you recommend to replace the cheese or would you just eliminate it?
    Thanks
