This week I had oodles of apples left over from a trip to the orchard the other day and I wanted to try something new! I was going to make an apple loaf bread but then I decided I wanted to make something softer and decided to make a crumb bread instead. This bread is so yummy and best eaten with a spoon...and maybe a scoop of vanilla ice cream!

How to make Caramel Apple Recipe for Crumb Bread

Ingredients:

  • 1 c. unsalted butter, room temp
  • ¾ c. brown sugar
  • ¼ c. apple sauce (try making our Homemade Slow Cooker Applesauce)
  • 1 T lemon juice
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 t. vanilla extract
  • 2 c. flour
  • ¼ t salt
  • 2 c coarsely chopped apples (I used granny smith)
  • caramel sundae sauce

Crumb Topping:

  • 1 T cinnamon
  • 4 T brown sugar
  • 4 T flour
  • 4 T butter (cold)
    Instructions

-preheat oven to 375, spray a large loaf pan with non-stick spray

-Cream the butter and sugar in a stand mixer until smooth

-In a small bowl, mix the lemon juice and baking soda. Don't worry- it will fizzle up!

see? lots of bubbles! Don't worry 🙂

- In the mixer, add in the lemon juice mix, eggs and vanilla; stir well. Add in the flour and salt until well combined. Stir in the apples by hand.

-In another small bowl, mix the topping ingredients together.

-Spread half the batter in the loaf pan and sprinkle half the topping mix on top. Squeeze some caramel sauce on top in a cross hatch pattern. Create a second layer on top by layering the rest of the batter, the remaining topping and another layer of caramel sauce.
