DISNEY’S CHRISTOPHER ROBIN: INTERVIEW WITH EWAN MCGREGOR

When you get news that you’ll be interviewing Ewan McGregor, you do a little dance. I’ve been to a lot of places thanks to my blog, but attending this event was special. Being able to interview the actors, like Ewan McGregor, is something that will go down as one of my favorite memories ever. Make sure to check out my red carpet experience too!

In case you haven’t caught on yet, Ewan McGregor plays Christopher Robin in the movie. He does an amazing job in the movie and I got to rub shoulders with him.

I’m still trying to let all of this sink in for a minute!

Sitting in the same room as him, I can tell you that he is very polite and has a lot to say. He didn’t hold anything back in his interview. I’m excited to share a few parts from the interview with you!

Christopher Robin opens Friday, August 3rd in theaters everywhere!

What was the message everyone should take away with the film?

When you’re watching a movie, like Christopher Robin, I always think there should be a takeaway of some sort and I was right. When this question was asked, I loved Ewan’s answer.

I think it’s just about connection isn’t it, it’s about being available to each other and being there, being present.

Ewan was also asked what he took away personally from the film. Ewan mentioned that loved being able to hang out with Pooh all day and being able to see all the different beautiful places the movie was shot in. Of course, Ewan also mentioned working with Marc Foster, who gave him a lot of freedom to make magic happen in the movie.

What was it like working with Bronte?

I found it quite difficult the first the early scenes with Bronte, who’s so lovely that little girl, she’s a great actor and a lovely little girl. And she’s not really spoiled by it in any way, she’s got great parents – her parents are both actors.

But she’s totally a little girl and she’s not like a little starlet. She’s not, she hasn’t got any pretensions at all – she’s lovely. And so those scenes at the beginning when I’m reading her a story and I go to tell her that I can’t come for the weekend and stuff, it was difficult. I knew I wanted to be cold with her; it was quite difficult to do. My instincts were not that.

I really love his honesty here. We were also able to interview Bronte and he was spot on with how he described her. She’s so lovely! She played her part very well in the movie, it was a real joy to watch her on stage.

Was there any classic Pooh tale that inspired Ewan?

Ewan would saw that what inspired him about this movie was the way Mark spoke about Christopher Robin. Mark described what he thought it could be and that it could be a good film for people to watch. The script also really inspired Ewan. While Ewan said he didn’t remember any particular Pooh stories (from his childhood), he was familiar with a majority of the books. Pooh’s voice also really inspired him during the movie.

Who did Ewan enjoy working with most?

You’d think that Ewan would just say Winnie the Pooh, since this is what the movie is about. However, Ewan enjoys “his little sidekick” Pooh, but he also enjoy Eeyore and Kanga. Naturally, he loves Eeyore because there is just something about the glumness he lets out. He mentioned that Kanga had a mum presence, she is very calming and maternal character of the bunch.

What was it like acting with stuffed animals?

Ewan said it was fine. The young actors they hired were very enthusiastic. While they weren’t going to be in the movie, the did read in the lines, and they were so enthusiastic. They had teddy bear versions of the characters, very beautifully made. They actor would hold the stuffed animal and move them around a little bit. However, they’d play the scene with the actors and the stuffies. Eventually, the effects people would use the real versions of the characters and they’d work their magic.

I personally had no idea what it was like to work with stuffed animals. However, Ewan and Hayley took the time to describe what it was like working with stuffed animals. I appreciated their honesty and the look inside of working with fresh actors and stuffed animals.
