DIY: Chevron Wall Photo Gallery

July 19, 2013   |   1 Comment

Creating this chevron wall photo gallery was easy with a few simple tricks.
First, select the wall you want to display photos on and decide what size frames you would like and how many. I sized this one to hold 6 8×10 frames.
Next, use a large role of paper to create a template for the wall hanging. Arrange the frames (or pieces of paper cut to the same size) on the large sheet. Hang it on your wall to make sure it is the size you want it to be. We had a specific wall that we wanted to create this for and didn’t want it to turn out too small.

Then head out and pick up a piece of MDF or whatever you would like to use. Ours is pretty heavy but anchoring it into studs will do the trick.
To paint it I primed then gave it a coat or two of my go to white, December Starlight from Lowe’s. I told my husband how thick I wanted the chevron design to be and my hubby helped measure it and draw it out on cardboard.
Making a template was the biggest help. I traced the chevron pattern and then taped it off. Seal the edge that will be your other color with the white. I describe this technique here.
***The only thing I would do differently is start the chevron pattern in the center.  Just find the center and make sure one of the points (down or up)follow that line. Not a huge deal, but when I hung the 2 frames I noticed it. ***
When that is dry, paint your contrasting color. In my case, navy.

The next day I roughed it up with some sandpaper and gave it a quick wipe down with an antiquing glaze and a damp rag.
My man had a picture wire kit and attached that to the back and it was ready to hang on our wall!
I hope you have a great week and find an opportunity to create something beautiful!

Stop by the blog or on my Facebook page and let me know if you try it! I’d love to hear how it turned out for you!
