When cold and flu season hits and my chest and sinuses are miserable and crying out for relief there is usually one thing I reach for that gives me the help I need to get through it. That soothing jar of heaven with its eucalyptus punch that lets me breathe, rest, and conquer the world (okay maybe that’s exaggerating a bit, at least sit upright and watch a little TV).
However, I have been trying to go natural as much as I can, and love dabbling in essential oils. So I set out to make my own version of Vapor Rub at home. With some experimenting with ingredients and amounts I came up with this blend that has a great texture, scent, and is very effective at combating cold and flu symptoms.
How to make DIY Vapor Rub
1/2 cup coconut oil
3 T. beeswax granules
1o drops Eucalyptus essential oil
10 drops Peppermint essential oil
10 drops Lemon essential oil
5 drops Lavender essential oil
Place coconut oil and beeswax granules in a small 4 oz. mason jar in a small pan. Add water to the pan until it comes up halfway on the jar. Stir frequently until completely melted.
Remove jar from pan and allow to cool a little, stir in essential oils.to set until firm, you can place in the refrigerator once it cools some to quicken the setting process.

Add the lid and store in a cool dry place.
Apply homemade vapor rub just the way you would store bought, to chest, around nose, on the back, and I like to rub it on the feet and cover with socks.
