Easy Road Trip Snack Idea

August 2, 2016   |   Leave a Comment

This post brought to you by DeMet’s FLIPZ®. The content and opinions expressed below are that of The Taylor House.

Who has a road trip planned this summer?  Where are you headed?  Next month, we’ll be taking our annual 14 hour drive to Canada fishing.

Yep, you read that right – it’s a 14 hour drive!  Although my boys are older, let me tell you – they still get antsy and bored in the car on trips this long.  There’s just so many video games to play and books to read and they want to stop constantly to eat! If we actually took the time to stop after each request, we would have added hours to our travel time.

Who wants to do that?  NO WAY!

We’re always trying to find fun new activities for the car and snacks to eat. Last week we made some fun cars out of FLIPZ® White Fudge Covered Pretzels!  I actually made a little kit for the kids to have in the car and create there cars whenever they wanted.

They loved the activity almost as much as they loved the snack!

We really only needed three things to make these Pretzel cars; FLIPZ®, blueberries and toothpicks. FLIPZ® kind of make a car shape all on their own and by adding a few blueberries for wheels you have a car snack! I was able to use one tooth pick, by breaking it in half, for the front and back “wheels”.

If you have little ones, they might enjoy driving the Pretzel Car across the map and follow where you’re going.  You could highlight the route you’re taking so they can follow along! Be sure to mark the end destination with a star or sticker so they know just where you’re headed.

If you’re making these at home before you go, you could use a little frosting to attach an O Shaped cereal as the steering wheel too.  I wanted to create a kit so that the kids could make them on their own though and that was too messy for the car.

I found one of my sons small stainless lunch box containers that has two different compartments and placed the blueberries in one and the toothpicks and Flipz in the other.  Then it was easy to transport back and forth from the car.

Not only is this a fun road trip snack, it could also be an activity to make at school, day care for parties or more.  They’re fun to make and simple enough for little hands to help.
