Tips for Getting More Done Everyday

If there is one word that most people would agree describes a mom, it's BUSY. All the things that go with running a household, taking care of the kids, and somewhere in there trying to find time to take care of you makes for a crazy day.

Here are some things you do that may just make your life a little easier, and get more done everyday.

Create a Drop Zone

Create an area in your home where important items get put so you always know where to find them. This could be your purse, keys, kid's backpacks, or whatever it is that you find yourself searching around the house for most days causing you to be late getting out the door.

Plan Ahead for Dinner

Keep dinner time organized with a Weekly Meal Plan is a huge time saver. You can download my Weekly Menu Plan printables for free to get you started. Taking the time at the beginning of each week, or even the start of each month, will save tons of time during the day that you may spend trying to figure out what's for dinner.

When possible, start dinner in the morning. Get your meat thawing, throw the salad together or throw something in the crockpot. You can even put a basket on your kitchen counter or in the pantry where you put all the items that you will need for dinner so they are all in one place ready to go. A can of veggies or the pasta you will be serving with dinner. Create a similar area in the fridge for all the items that need to be kept cold.

Schedule Your Week

I can't tell you how many times I got busy during the afternoon and scrambled to get all the items together to make dinner. In some cases even had to run to the store. This way you know you have everything in the morning so there are no extra trips to the store right before dinner. And possibly you have half of the work done by the time you are ready to start preparing dinner.

Take time at the beginning of each week to really look at what you have going on in the upcoming week. Schedule all your meetings, practices and appointments out on a calendar and be sure to include all the necessary data like time and location. This way you know which days will be the busiest, and which days you have a little more breathing room to get extra things done.

And we all know that things will come up during the week. Don't forget to add them to your calendar as they come up so you don't forget. Having all your to dos all in one place will save you time during the week trying to find the email or slip of paper that has all the info you need.

Avoid Time Wasters

Be careful of those unnecessary time wasters. If you find that you have a particular thing that tends to get you off track during the day, whether that for you is flipping through a magazine or surfing the web, designate certain times during the day when this can be done. Try to stick to the amount of time you allocated so you don't find yourself wasting too much time.

Even a few minutes saved in your day is a few minutes you can use getting something else done. A mother's job is never done but if you can even squeeze an extra couple minutes out of your day, it will seem like hours.
