Have I mentioned how long this winter has been here in Minnesota? It’s been a hard six months so of course when my boys have a week off for spring break we decided to fly south to the sun. I’m going to give you a little heads up, I have posts with activities and things we did while we were on this trip so be on the look out for them.
This year we decided to visit Arizona, this is the first time we’ve ever been there so we were excited to explore and see what the state had to offer. First let me tell you, I LOVE the weather, it was warm and sunny every single day we were there. I’m not sure how it is in the summer but the winter months are amazing!
I wanted to share one of our favorite activities while we were in the Flagstaff area on our Arizona trip. My boys loved the day that we spent at Bearizona, which is a Drive-Thru Wildlife Park where you can drive thru in your car to get some up close and personal views of some beautiful animals and then there is a walk through park that has the feel of a zoo.
I took a bunch of photos of the amazing animals on our trip! We saw everything from Bears to birds, seriously the bird show was one of my favorites and seeing the lazy bears lounging around in the mornings was so cute! My little guy loved petting the goats and following the ducks around too.
One of my favorite parts of the Bearizona day was the High Country Raptors show that we watched. These birds are amazing and literally flew inches from our heads, in between people. It was so awesome to see how they were trained, hear information about them and see them in action.
Information from Bearizona Website
During these shows, visitors come face to face with hawks, owls, falcons and other raptors. Programs have included “on the fist” demonstrations and dramatic “free flight” shows, all with a narrative on natural history, conservation and interesting facts while entertaining audiences of all ages.
At the conclusion of every show the handlers will have the birds throughout Fort Bearizona “on the fist” for visitors to get an up-close look and answer any lingering questions they might have.
The Bears of Bearizona
Of course if you ask my boys their favorite part of Bearizona, they will pick the bears. Come on, they’re boys! They loved seeing these magnificent creatures up close and personal and that’s exactly what you get on the drive-thru wildlife tour. Some of the bears and sleeping and lazy while others are roaming the roads and playing around. It’s such a cool experience to see them up close.
Do you live in the Flagstaff area? Or are you planning a trip to Arizona, The Grand Canyon or Flagstaff? I would suggest putting Bearizona on your list of activities to do with the kids. They are going to love it and so are you.
Be sure to follow Bearizona on Facebook and Twitter to keep up with special events! Also, watch for upcoming posts about other Flagstaff activities and Vacation details!
Bearizona looks fun! I bet my kids will love it here. Although they are still not exposed to travelling but bringing them here would really give them the best experience.
Bearizona is a ton of fun April! I hope you get to experience it with your kids someday!
