Last weekend my family and I spent an amazing couple days in Brainerd, MN at the Grand View Lodge and I wanted to share the details with you.
Winter is long in Minnesota, I mean seriously long and after a while, you start to wonder what there is to do in the cold and snow and if the winter is ever going to end. If you have kids, it’s even worse, everyone feels cooped up and you look forward to spring break or just doing something fun and new.
This is why we decided to head up north and enjoy everything that Grand View Lodge has to offer and let me tell you, it’s a lot!
Grand View Lodge is nestled off the beating path right on beautiful Gull Lake, our cabin was literally steps from the shoreline! It’s even beautiful in the winter with several activities to do for the entire family.
Looking at the lodge itself you may wonder if it’s very kid-friendly, and my hubby and I thought about having a quiet getaway just the two of us but I’m so glad that we took the boys (and my Mom). There a ton of activities for the kids to do!
Of course, my boys favorite part of the trip with swimming in the pool, using the water slide and playing water volleyball. They have been talking about swimming and getting back to the lack since November so it was nice to have a pool that was geared towards kids for them to cut loose and have fun together.
There’s also two nice sized Hot Tubs for Mom and Dad to hang out in too, I definitely spent my fair share of time relaxing!
The Family Fun Zone has several large blow-up bounce toys for the kids and while we were there my boys had a Joisting Contest and the little one even won a $15 Gift Card to spend at the resort (he stocked up on candy and had his fair share of Blue Slushies at the pool!)
Although I don’t have a photo, I even got in on the fun and battled each of the boys. It was actually harder than it looked to control the joist pole but I was still able to win! Yay, Mom!
These crazy kids spent an hour just running around, bouncing and burning energy! It was great!
After swimming, playing and just walking around and enjoying the lodge the kids crashed in our cabin and took 2 hour naps! Here’s a view of what our little home away from home looked like.
You absolutely must take time for naps when you’re on vacation, and having several bedrooms in the cabin made it easy for the kids to spread out and have some quiet time.
There favorite part of the cabin was the loft where they could still see the TV and everything that was going on down below.
Check out this beautiful fireplace, you can use the wood the lodge provides to start your own fire every evening to sit and enjoy. Love that! We also had a kitchen where we could keep drinks and food on hand for when we got hungry but the lodge had so many restaurant and food options we didn’t need a lot.
There were several outdoor activities for the family to do too, things like Dog Sled Rides, Stagecoach Rides with a bonfire and smores, cross country ski and snowshoeing. You can easily spend days enjoying everything that Grand View Lodge has to offer.
We loved just walking the paths and enjoying the beautiful outdoor Minnesota winter. We got lucky and it was a very mild weekend so we didn’t have to worry about freezing.
We were so fortunate to have a large enough cabin so that my Mom could join us on our trip, I think she had just as much fun as the kids did!
The Grand View Lodge is going on our yearly winter getaway list, there were so many things we didn’t have time to do and I cant’ wait to get back to visit. I am sure it’s a just as an amazing trip in the summer too! I’m betting they book up fast so be sure to schedule your trip right away.
