If you’re looking for the perfect girls getaway, I have a list of fun things to do in Waco! I’ve been to Waco, TX twice now and can honestly say that I am in love with the quiet little town and all of the different shopping, restaurants, and activities that you can find! Today I have a list of my favorite fun things to do in Waco when you visit!
Fun Things To Do In Waco
Magnolia Market
Last March when a group of friends and I visited Dallas and drove to Waco, we came JUST to visit Magnolia Market. You can read all about our Girls Trip to Magnolia Market if you want the details about that trip! It’s absolutely worth the trip, I obviously came a second time and STILL don’t think that I have seen all the fun things to do in Waco!
Here’s the scoop, if you LOVE Fixer Upper or Chip & Jo, this is a trip you need to make! There’s just something about being at the place where it all started that makes you smile. The grounds are beautiful, as you would expect, and the experience is so much fun!
Make sure that you stop by the Silo Bakery while you’re there. We arrived right as it was opening and there was a steady line that wrapped around the building and down the sidewalk. Be prepared! They do have someone that will walk through the line and hand out order forms so that you can view the menu and be ready when it’s your turn! Two suggestions I have for your order is the Classic Cinnamon Roll and the Prize Pig – trust me, they’re both amazing!
Magnolia Market is full of all the most beautiful home decor items that anyone could wish for! No worries about not being able to pack your treasures in your suitcase to take home, they have a place to ship right on the property! Or you can use my trick, I took a LARGE suitcase with a smaller suitcase inside. That way I could pack all my clothes in the smaller back and use the large suitcase to put my purchases in.
Plan to have lunch at Magnolia Market, there’s a lot of food truck options to pick from! Plus, the bakery has delicious cupcakes!!
Common Grounds
Last year when I visited Waco, there was a Common Grounds coffee shop on the property. We all gave it a try and were instantly hooked on their delicious Secret Sauce that’s put in several of the coffee options. This year we were lucky enough to stay at an amazing property (watch for an upcoming post on this) that’s on the Baylor Campus and within walking distance of the original Common Grounds.
You can guess that a cup of coffee was the first stop we made after dropping off our bags! If you like sweet coffee drinks, be sure to try the Cowboy Coffee! I’ve had it both hot and on ice and it’s amazing either way!
Heritage Creamery
Next door to Common Grounds is Heritage Creamery, I can just kick myself for not stopping in and trying the delicious dessert! I have read over and over that it’s the best ice cream in Waco and now it haunts my dreams! I love that it uses all local products to create the fabulous ice cream. This is going to be my first stop on my next trip to Waco!
Silo District Trolley
Another fun thing to do in Waco is the handy little Trolley that you can jump on when you’re at Magnolia that goes around downtown. It makes several different stops and it’s actually FREE to take!
We decided just to hop on and take a ride but ended up finding a cool place to stop and shop for a good portion of the afternoon. Spice Village is one of my favorite places now and I wouldn’t have even known about it if we hadn’t taken that ride! Make sure to add it to your list, you’ll be able to get on and off at multiple locations! I’ve included the map below for you to view and plan out your stops!
Spice Village
Spice Village is a collection of shops that has everything you need to add a little or a lot of zest to your life! Collegiate, kids, baby, home decor, men’s accessories, jewelry, souvenirs, bath & body, candles, clothing and so much more!!!! Spice Village is the dream shopping experience with more than 60 boutiques under one roof! This 30,000 square feet shopping experience you do not want to pass up.
Not only does Spice Village have a ton of shopping, there’s also a little restaurant on the lower level called Olive Branch that has the BEST breakfast! It’s absolutely worth the visit!
Baylor University
I know what you’re thinking but trust me – you’ve never seen such a beautiful campus! We loved staying at this location, we were within walking distance of Common Grounds and Heritage Creamery. The Baylor campus has beautiful water features and the buildings are just amazing. Not to mention all the flowers and greenery that we were excited to see after leaving the wintery tundra of Iowa! I would take an hour or so and just take a nice walk around the campus, it’s one of those stops that’s absolutely worth making!
Harp Design Co
If you’re a fan of Fixer Upper, you’ve probably heard of Harp Design Co. Clint is the talent behind the beautiful furniture that’s created for many of the homes that appear on Fixer Upper. It seems that each episode ends up with a special piece that’s made just for the space. His work is amazing, to say the least and I think that Clint and his wife Kelly have a new show on the DIY network airing on May 9th called, Woodwork! Make sure to check that out!
This was a little drive from where we were staying but in my opinion it’s a must do! It’s just another one of those fun things to do in Waco that needs to make your list!
A couple takeaways from our trip I wanted to share. First, two days is NOT long enough! Going into this trip I was worried that I wouldn’t have enough to do for two full days but that was far from the truth. There’s a lot of things that we didn’t see because we just didn’t have time!
Second, Magnolia Market isn’t an ALL DAY, we actually only spent an hour or so there and the rest of the time we explored the city and visited other shopping areas. Don’t get me wrong, you CAN spend much more time there if you want but you can see most things within that couple hour timeframe.
