Graduation parties are so much fun but a lot of work to plan for. We have some great tips to make your graduation party planning a little easier!
Graduation Party Planning Tips
Decorations – Plan ahead for these so you can create decorations that won’t cost a ton. Use things like the Graduates photos, ribbons, trophies, etc. in center pieces.
Use the Graduates school colors in jars of M&M’s and use those as a decoration and snack on the table.
Hang black and white photos of the Graduate from helium balloons around the room.
Mason Jars are a fabulous decorating tool – fill them with just about anything and use them on tables.
The Food – If you’re having an open house Graduation party (these are common where I am from) you’ll need lots of food for people coming and going. Making easy to eat finger foods are always a hit!
Recipes that are easy to double like our Garlic Honey Meatballs and Hamburger Queso are a great option when you’re making food for a crowd.
Make it Fun – Graduation Parties don’t have to be boring! Keep it fun by having a few games – Photo matching with the Graduates baby photos and guests guess the age or have a Graduation Advice Tree where people can write a piece of advice to share with the graduate.
Try having a Photo booth so guests can have photos taken of themselves or with the Graduate!
Keep it Easy – Instead of hosting a huge open house why not keep it easy and more intimate with close friends and family. Cut out all the work of hosting a huge party and head out to Buca di Beppo instead. It’s the perfect place for Graduation celebrations with their family-style dishes that are delicious and perfect for sharing with friends and family!

Great read! I’ll try to apply this after my girlfriend graduates college next year. I can’t seem to throw a proper party even if it’s just a barbecue. Cheers!
I like your idea of keeping the graduation party simple and intimate. My wife will be graduating after this semester and I want to do something fun for her. I think having some friends and family gathered in a private dinning room sounds really great. Most importantly, I think she would enjoy having everyone in one room. She is really excited to be done with school! Thanks for the ideas!
Great tips on planning a party. Gonna think of them the next time i organize one. Great music is a must in a party. Thanks for the article. Would like to read more of your wise tips.
Food preparation is always the most crucial part of planning a party. Hire a an event planner or caterer to ease the pressure. You wouldn’t want tension building up on you during the event 🙂
Planning a good event takes time and right people to do it.
My best party planning advice is to make lists! Don’t think that you will just remember everything that needs to be done. Better safe than sorry. Write it down and prioritize the list and work in order.
My best advice is to take advantage of friends and family to not only help you plan and think of idea but to also get items needed for the event so you don’t stretch yourself too thin.
My advice is to not be afraid to let others help out in different ways.
Hire a planner! If that’s not an option, brainstorm with friends. It’s amazing the wealth of information you can gather from people, both things to save time/money and pitfalls to avoid.
If your going out, make reservations or if having a big family party then ask the to bring side dishes
