Grandma’s Texas Sheet Cake Recipe

  • 1 Cup water
  • 1 Cup butter (2 sticks)
  • 3 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (I use Rodelle)
  • 2 Cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 Cups Truvia sugar
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 Cup sour cream
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • For the Frosting
  • 6 Tbsp milk
  • 3 Tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder (I use Rodelle)
  • 1/2 Cup butter (1 stick)
  • 3 3/4 Cup powdered sugar

Instructions

  2. Step 1 – Preheat oven to 350 degrees F and grease a jelly roll pan.
  3. Step 2 – Mix the water, butter and cocoa powder together in a saucepan over medium heat and bring to a boil.
  4. Step 3 – In a separate bowl mix together the flour, sugar baking soda and salt.
  5. Step 4 – In a second small bowl mix together the sour cream, eggs and vanilla.
  6. Step 5 – Add the sour cream/egg mixture to the flour mixture and mix until combined.
  7. Step 6 – Once the chocolate mixture in the saucepan in boiling, remove it from heat and pour it into the batter.
  8. Step 7 -Mix until combined and no lumps remain.
  9. Step 8 – Pour the mixture into the pan and bake for 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  10. Frosting Instructions
  11. Step 1 – Place the milk, cocoa and butter to a saucepan.
  12. Step 2 – Bring mixture to a boil.
  13. Step 3 – Once boiling, stir in powdered sugar.
  14. Step 4 – Spread the frosting over the cake and enjoy!
