We have a little cabin on the lake in Minnesota that we’re in the process of remodeling to use in the summer. We’re just to the point of all the finish work, like closet organizers, kitchen counters, etc. One of the problems with it being a small cabin is that the closets are all pretty small too so I really needed to find a good organizing system to be able to fit what we needed in it. I wanted to share my Tips on How to Organize a Small Closet with you as well as the ClosetMaid SuiteSymphony™ closet system that we used.
We decided to use the ClosetMaid SuiteSymphony™ organizer because of how easy it was to order and install. SuiteSymphony™ is available for purchase from ClosetMaid.com.
Tips For Organizing a Small Closet
Clean it Out – Start by cleaning every single thing out of your closet. Get rid of things you don’t need by donating or selling on a garage sale. Only keep what you really use and need!
Start with a Great System – We did a complete overhaul of our closet at the cabin and used the SuiteSymphony™ ClosetMaid system in Pure White. It’s a great start for getting a small closet organized because it has shelves, drawers, hanging rods, etc. It helps make space for everything in the closet! I was able to use the online Design Tool to create my closet solution, all I did was insert the dimensions of the closet and then pick what I wanted. Easy Peasy!
Out of Season Items – Make more space in your closet by storing out of season clothing in bins under your bed.
Use Space in the Room – We added a small ClosetMaid 3 Cube Bench right next to the closet, it’s a great place to sit down when you’re getting dressed and store extra shoes or bins with clothing!
Add Drawers – If you have room, add a set of drawers in the closet for socks, belts, under garments! If you don’t have room for a tower of drawers you can use baskets on the top shelf. It’s just another way to get organized and use every inch of space.
Keep it Handy – Store your most used items at eye level. Don’t stick shoes you wear everyday up on the top shelf, it will just be a pain to get them out all the time.
Add Lights – Add lighting in your closet so you can see and use what’s in there!
Use Extra Rods – You can hang scarves, ties, etc on extra rods so add another row of rods on the back wall or even on the inside of the door.
I hope these tips and tricks help you get your closet organized and in order! Be sure to check out ClosetMaid for all their different closet organization products and follow them on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Pinterest for more inspiration for your closets!
