How to Stand Out as a Virtual Assistant
Meet your deadlines
Bloggers have deadlines to meet themselves with brands, for their own editorial calendars, for seasonal specific posts, etc… It’s really important that you respect their time and honor the deadlines you have to keep them coming back to you. If something comes up like a family emergency or something else that is really out of your control be sure to communicate that to them, and they will respect you and most likely be understanding about it.
Be willing to admit mistakes
If you miss a deadline, screw up a post, accidently delete something important, whatever- OWN UP TO IT. Apologize and find a way to fix it but never be afraid to fess up or ask for help. Most people can respect and deal with someone who admits mistakes rather than makes excuses.
Be willing to learn
Most bloggers that you will work with have been in the business awhile, they have seen trends and people come and go, they know what works and what doesn’t be willing to take their advice, listen to their counsel. Look into blogging conferences and online courses to take so that you are always learning and expanding your skill set. The more you can do to assist bloggers the more valuable you become in their eyes.
Learn to say no
Yes, this may sound like the opposite of what you want to do. But, if you have a tendency to say yes to everything in order to please you are going to end up burnt out. You will overextend yourself to the point where none of your jobs are completed or are not up to par. A client would rather you say no then give them a poor quality of work.
Be up to date on the newest trends
Whether it is Facebook algorithms, keywording for posts, or learning to create titles with colors that grab people on Pinterest you want to continuously be growing and learning in the areas that you are well versed in as well as branching out into new areas to stay in demand.
Go the extra mile
Much of this comes into play from learning more skills so that you can offer extra services and meeting deadlines. Find other ways you can make yourself invaluable to your clients with special touches from follow-up emails to providing links, and really thinking outside the box with your jobs.
