We’re on day two of a winter storm here in Iowa and that means everyone is starting to get a little itchy and ready to get out of the house. My boys are a little bit older and can thankfully find plenty to do but I know my nieces and nephews need a few more activity options for sure! They’ve watched every movie in the house, played with most of the toys and spend a little time coloring. NOW WHAT?
I thought I’d share a few Indoor Winter Activities Ideas to help get us through the long winter months! My number one piece of advice, think outside the box and get creative!
Indoor Winter Activities
Paint the Snow – Bring a small container of paint inside and use food coloring in water with paint brushes and let the kids go to town painting the snow!
Make a Fort – Use all the blankets you have in the living room and make a fun fort for the kids to cuddle up in and read stories! You could even let them sleep in it overnight!
Make Instruments – Use items you have around the house to make fun instruments for the kids to make noise with! Check out our Pringles Can Drum!
Make Roads – Use Masking Tape and create a city for the kids to drive their cars on. We used to do this all the time on the hardwood floors of our house!
Get In the Kitchen – Make a new treat with your kids that you’ve never made before! Let them help!
Indoor Scavenger Hunt – Create a list of items the kids need to find in the house and get them looking! This doesn’t have to be fancy, just write down a list!
Use Your Basement – I know so many people who have big open spaces in their basement – let the kids bring in their bikes and ride around! My nephew was riding his Strider Bike all afternoon and had a BLAST!!
A STRIDER® No-Pedal Balance Bike is the perfect tool for teaching balance and riding skills to toddlers, children, and adults of all abilities. We love Strider because the kids really can “do it themselves” from the start and there’s no pedals or chains to get in the way of riding! They really focus on learning to balance first!
Advantages of Strider
• Are ultra lightweight and easy to control
• Increase balance, coordination, and confidence
• Allow children to focus on learning balance first
• Are free of chains, pedals, and protrusions that can harm a child
