I am so excited to have Leanne from And Away We Go sharing a really cute Mothers Day Homemade Gift Idea. Today she has a Personalized Mothers Day Sharpie Mug that she made with her son. This is such a inexpensive and fun idea if you are looking for something unique and personalized. Find the step by step tutorial below and make one for Grandma or even a set for yourself!
Sharpie crafts are abound in the blogosphere these days, from textiles to jewelry this everyday office staple has really broken into the world of crafts. Walking down the Sharpie aisle at Staples, perusing the huge variety of colors and sizes is enough to get my creative juices flowing!
For Mother’s Day this year, Andrew and I decided to personalize a coffee mug for Nana.
Homemade Mothers Day Gift Idea: Personalized Mug
-
I started the project by cutting out a “Nana” stencil with my silhouette.
-
I used a bit of spray glue to temporarily stick the stencil to the mug.
-
After filling in the letters with a Sharpie, I let Andrew add his little doodles (can you believe I gave a 3 year old access to permanent markers??!!).
-
Once we were finished with the art work, I placed the mug in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes, allowing the mug to cool in oven before removing.
-
Baking the mug will make the marker set, so that it will not wash away.
We also added the boys names and the date, so that Nana will always remember who her new favorite mug came from! Love you Nana!!

Hi Chrissy, I’m new to your blog, visiting over from Leanne’s. I have to admit, I didn’t realize you had to bake the mug so the marker would be permanent. Ha ha….mine would have been cute for all of one use! Very cute Leanne! I’m sure any mother or grandmother would love this sweet gift made by little hands. 🙂
