Peanut Butter Pumpkin Homemade Puppy Treats
Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Homemade Puppy Treats
Right after school started last year  we added a little puppy to our family.  My boys had been wanting one for a while and truth be told, I wanted the company during the day while everyone was gone.  I started scouring the net looking at dog breeds to find one that was both hypoallergenic and a good dog for kids.
Early in September we went to look at some puppies and found the one that seemed to fit our family perfectly and Lily {a little Havanese female} came home with us.
She’s such a little cutie and gets thoroughly spoiled by all of us, I even have made her some Homemade Puppy Treats that she loves! Â These were so easy to make and they are her new favorite treats.
How to Make Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Puppy Treats
Ingredients You Need
- 2 1/2 Cups Flour (I used Whole Wheat)
- 2 Large Eggs
- 1/2 Cup Pumpkin Puree, NOT pie filling
- 3 Tablespoons Peanut Butter
- 1/2 Cup Water
Instructions
Step 1 – Mix all the ingredients together with a stand mixer until it forms a dough that sticks together, add more water if needed
Step 2 – Dump the dough onto a floured surface and roll out to about 1/4 inch thick
Step 3 – Use a cookie cutter to make little biscuits – I wish I would have found this DOG BONE Cookie Cutter before I made them
Step 4 – Place the biscuits on a cookie sheet and back for 25 minutes in a 350 degree oven.
Let cool and share with your furry baby. Â This recipe made about 75 treats – but it depends on the size you make.
I NEVER thought I would end up being a dog person that would make dog treats! Â Seriously – I think I laughed at these stores when I saw them but after bringing our cute little fluffy puppy home – I totally understand. Â She loves these little treats so it’s worth the time it takes to make them!
Have you ever made Homemade Puppy Treats? Â What type do you make? Â I really hope I’m not the only crazy person who makes these!
I got 2 different size bone cookie cutters at our local Bulk Barn.
Can any kind of flour be used for this? I have rye flour that I will not use for anything else.
My pups love these. I add one more ingredient. 6 strips of cooked bacon ground up. This is their favorite treat and they won’t eat any store or dog deli purchased treats.
I do make homemade treats for my Jack Russell. He lives them, plus, the things that they are putting in dog food and treats are junk.
Thank You !!She Loves them
350° seems a little high to bake them for so long…?
I make treats and I put them in the freezer so they never spoil and dogs love them right out of the freezer! Been doing for years and they are 12-1/2 & 13 years old.
How to make chicken for my doggie..
Love the hearts.. reminds me that we love our furbabies..
I make treats for my dogs all the time, and I plan to make these. However, wheat is bad for dogs. You should use rice flour, especially brown rice flour. Thanks for the recipe.
Hi Melanie,
Have you tried this recipe with Brown rice flour yet? – How did they turn out. I would love any simple recipes you have for dog treats, I have 2 little Cavoodles. Thanks so much.
Wheat is only bad for dogs if they are allergic to wheat. Wheat is in the top 5 allergens for dogs. In order they are beef, dairy, wheat, chicken and egg. Things that are commonly found in dog food.
My dogs are allergic to 57 things between them. Wheat is not one of them and they have done fine on a diet that contains wheat.
You are not crazy! I make homemade biscuits as wells as homemade “ice cream” for my dogs. The ice cream is simply equal parts nonfat vanilla yogurt and water, then add flavor. I use peanut butter, but bananas will work too. Freeze in condiment cups with lids. They are super cheap to make. My dogs love them.
These go in the refrigerator, right?
Did you get an answer on this? I want to make some also.
I’ve made homemade dog cookies before and unless very dry, like a biscuit, they will mold. Refrigeration should preserve them a little longer.
Hello, where do you find pumpkin puree? I’d love to make these for my 3 little furry babies. Thank you for the recipe.
I buy it at Wallmart
If you cook a pumpkin down and put the meat from it in a blender you have puree
Pumpkin purée is canned and found in the grocery aisle where canned fruits and pie fillings are sold; often in the baking isle. This is readily available in the USA.
I buy mine in safeways
Renee, pumpkin puree is just labeled “pumpkin” on the can.
Do these treats need to be refrigerated for storing?
