Did you guys enjoy watching Team USA compete at the Olympic Games as much as we did? My boys loved watching the swimming events, being on swim team themselves, they knew all the strokes and events. They loved watching their favorite athletes compete and boy did it get loud around here when when they watched the swimming events.
My youngest kept saying that would be him some day. I just had to smile and think to myself that I cannot imagine the amount of work that goes into qualifying for the Olympic Games and compete for Team USA! To think at a young age their parents are driving them to practice in the morning and making sure to fuel their bodies with food to help them perform at their best.
There’s so much that goes into sports and helping our young athletes at any level. Something that I work hard at is planning nutritious meals and snacks with milk that will not just fill them up but give them the energy they need to perform at their best.
One of my favorite things to give my kids before a big swim meet are these Protein Ball Snacks along with a large glass of ice cold Milk. This way, I know they’re getting protein and nutrients that they need – plus a little chocolate as a treat.
My boys both swim Freestyle and Backstroke while my youngest also really like swimming Breaststroke. This is only their second year swimming and they’ve really come far from where they started. I was a swimmer years ago, so it makes my heart happy to see them swimming during the summer.
How to Make Protein Ball Snacks

- 2/3 Cup Honey
- 1 Cup Chocolate Chips (optional)
- 1/2 Cup Coconut Flakes (optional)

Mix all ingredients together in a bowl until it is well combined.
Use a large cookie scoop to measure out the balls and roll them in your hands to form – they will be slightly sticky.

Stick the protein balls in the freezer for 30 minutes to form.
This made 2 dozen Protein Balls.
Serve with a side of ice cold Milk!
I serve an 8 oz. glass of Milk with my boys snacks because it’s a nutrient powerhouse that’s full of 9 essential nutrients. Milk contains a package of nutrients that’s hard to find in any other single food or beverage. It’s simple, wholesome, affordable and naturally nutrient-rich.
Milk has helped to fuel thousands of athletes to train at their highest level, it’s no wonder that I find my kids perform better after a nutritious snack like this.
