Saving on Prescriptions with Walgreens #rxsavingsclub

June 25, 2012   |   2 Comments

Today I got the chance to sign up for the Walgreen’s Prescription Savings Club.  If you haven’t heard about it, keep reading and see why I decided it was a really great new program.

See this cutie?  This is my oldest son, he turns ten this year. What does that have to do with Walgreen’s?

I have never shared anything about his medical issues here on the blog, but he has a few.  First, let me say that we are very lucky that they are all manageable with medications.  That is why I was so interested in the Walgreen’s program, a way to help save money on medications.  We do have insurance through my husbands employment, but with the cost of everything these days, having a little extra help can’t hurt!

This guy has Growth Hormone Deficiency  which requires him to have a shot every night before bed.  They are really expensive, he has been on them since he was four and will continue to take them through his older teenage years.  He also has Hypothyroid, which means he gets to take a pill every day too.  We spend alot on prescription medications and the equipment used to administer the shots.  This doesn’t even include all of our pain, cold, allergy, or other medications that everyone else in the family uses.

So, the Walgreen’s program really interested me.
Here is what I found out.
You have to pay to be in the Walgreens Prescription Savings Club, the cost is $20/individual or $35/family for a yearly plan.  If you think about what health insurance costs these days, $35 bucks a year is an amazing deal!  This is something that will pay for its self within a couple uses.
Here is an example of some of the savings available with the Walgreen’s Prescription club Card.  This is a program that allows you to either use your insurance OR the Prescription Club plan, which ever one saves you the MOST!
And Here are some of the club benefits:
  • Valuable discounts on thousands of brand-name and all generic medications

  • Between 5 percent and 20 percent discount on most immunizations

  • 10 percent bonus on purchases of Walgreens Brand

  • 10 percent savings on services from Take Care ClinicsSM at select Walgreens3

  • Savings on preventive and lifestyle medications your insurance may not cover

  • Additional discounts on pet medications with a human equivalent, all compounded medications, nebulizers and diabetic supplies

Did you notice that part about the 10 percent bonus on Walgreens brand products?!  That means if you spend $20 in Walgreen’s diapers or Walgreen’s cold medicine for example, you will get $2 on your Prescription Club card that will go towards your next purchase! No coupons to keep track of!  You just scan your card every time you check out and the savings are there!  I love that!

Here is another cool offer that I noticed online while I was looking up the program!  A $25 Walgreen’s card with a transferred prescription! Awesome!

After I looked up all the information at Walgreens.com, we headed out to sign up for the program.  You can see my Google+ shop over HERE.

When we got to Walgreen’s there was a sign up in the door way that showed information about the program.
We went right back to the pharmacy and it literally took us five minutes to sign up!  The pharmacist that helped me was so great!  She gave me personal experiences on how much she had saved with the program and made sure that all of my questions were answered! She also mentioned that if we had pets, you could use this for them as well!

You can learn more about the program or connect with Walgreens on their website, Facebook or Twitter.
