I love the convenience and freedom of working from home but it also brings some disadvantages. One being that sometimes I am sitting at my desk far too long, or tossing back wayyyy to much coffee, or eating a bowl of cereal for lunch because I am just too busy to prepare something healthy.
I am making a commitment to stomp out some bad habits before they become permanent with a few changes if you also need to make some adjustments to have a healthier work at home routine stay with me….
Staying Healthy When You Work From Home
Get up and Move- Wear a device or set a time to remind you to get up and move every 15 minutes. Stretch, walk around the room, do a couple exercises, a few yoga moves, whatever… Something to keep you from kinking up your neck and get the blood flowing- this is important for a sharp mind as well!
Even if it’s just some leg exercises in your seat or jumping jacks in place. Turn on an upbeat song and get yourself moving for just a minute or two, you won’t regret it and it takes so little time out of your busy day. This will also give your eyes a much-needed break from the computer or other devices.
Don’t forget to eat (healthy)- For dinner, I usually toss something in the crock pot or pressure cooker to feed the family. Lunch generally is a handful of chips, nuts, a piece of fruit if I am lucky. I am working on cutting out the mindless eating but when you are busy and constantly on the go, it can be hard to make sure you have a healthy lunch. Discovering Garden Lites might have just changed the game plan. I can enjoy a Butternut Squash Souffle or Superfood Veggie Cakes between phone calls -they are heavy on veggies, convenience, AND flavor. Just pop them in the microwave and you will lunching and snacking on great options in no time!

Keep water handy- After a cup of coffee number three, I make sure to keep a bottle of water on my desk at all times and sip on it throughout the day, refilling it several times to keep my water intake up. Add a slice of lemon, lime, or a few berries to add some flavor without empty calories if you find it hard to drink plain water. You can also put it in a pretty goblet or wine glass to make it even more special.
Make time for “me time”- Grab a hot bubble bath, a pedicure, a coffee date with girlfriends or whatever you need to get some time for yourself, your mental health is just as important as your physical health. If you burn out you won’t be at your best for anyone- yourself, your family, or your clients so make me time a priority in your day.
