I’ve been on a mission the last few months to really brighten and make over the rooms in my house. I decided to start with the living room because it’s one of the first rooms you see when you come in the front door. I didn’t want to do anything drastic so we made simple changes that made a huge difference.
I wanted to share some of our simple living room make over ideas with you today that might help you get your space updated for spring!
Five Tips for a Simple Living Room Make Over
Pick Neutral Furniture – Finding furniture that will last through multiple decorating changes is huge! You want the large pieces in the room to be something that will change with adding pops of color in the pillows, curtains and decorations instead of having to buy new furniture all the time.
We went with a chocolate leather couch and love seat that will really stand up to my boys wear and tear on it. Plus, I can add lighter colors with the rug, pillows and curtains that will lighten the room up!
Add a Beautiful Rug – Adding a beautiful rug to your space can really add an entire level of texture and warmth to the room. Since we have the dark furniture I went with a white rug from Rugs USA that is the perfect size and color to really tie the room together. I went with the Venice Shaggy White Rug that is one of their top selling rugs. The Rugs USA Venice Shaggy Rug offers understated elegance and extreme comfort in an affordable area rug.
Don’t Forget the Lighting – Be sure to add lamps and lighting to your room that will brighten and warm the space! You can never go wrong with more lighting.
Simple Decorations – Don’t add a lot of clutter to the room, keep the decorations simple and practical. I like to use trays a lot in my space to put items in. This round tray on the coffee table holds a few books, mug and Kleenex. It doesn’t get any more simple than that!
Add Pop of Color – Remember that we said to buy neutral furniture and add a pop of color? This is where you do that with your pillows, curtains and blankets. These are easy to change when you grow tired of them and want to shake things up.
