Soothing DIY Throat Drops

February 21, 2017   |   Leave a Comment

When cold and flu woes settle in and make you miserable there is nothing to do but seek out relief. I try to avoid taking over the counter medications and prescription as much as I can.

How to make Soothing DIY Throat Drops

I mean there are times we all need antibiotics or a something stronger but for relieving minor symptoms I much prefer to make my own products- from DIY Vapor Shower Bombs to DIY Vapor Rub and even today’s recipe- Soothing Cough Drops.

This recipe coats your irritated throat and delivers relief in the form of several well-known ingredients from Grandma’s medicine cabinet. Coconut oil soothes a raw throat and is antibacterial and antiviral. Honey helps to alleviates coughs and lessens cold symptoms and duration. Cinnamon is antibacterial and is believed to aid in lessening symptoms and shortening the duration of colds and flu.

How to make Soothing DIY Throat Drops

Ingredients:

1/2 cup coconut oil

1/2 cup raw honey

1 tsp. organic cinnamon

3 tsp. lemon juice

1/2 tsp. grated ginger

you will also need:

a silicone mold

Directions:

Soften coconut oil slightly in the microwave, no need to melt.

In a stand or with a hand mixer combine coconut oil, honey, cinnamon, lemon juice, and grated ginger-mix until thoroughly combined.

Scoop mixture into your silicone mold, try to choose something with small cavities ( mine is a jelly bean mold). Press firmly into the mold to be sure you are filling it completely. Scrape off the excess and fill more.

Place your mold in the refrigerator and allow to harden for a few hours. Remove mold from the refrigerator and gently pop out your throat soothers.

Place hardened drops in a container with a tight-fitting lid, this will keep them firm and also the cold will be soothing on sore throats!
