Spring Cleaning: Checklist and Cleaning Essentials

March 8, 2018   |   45 Comments

Spring is in the air and I’m pleased as punch after the snow and cold of winter.  I can tell you though, as soon as the weather even begins to warm up just a little bit, I’m thinking about spring cleaning.  There’s nothing like throwing open the windows and getting the house fresh and clean after a hard winter.

Spring cleaning is somewhat of a tradition for me, after watching my Mom and Grandma spring clean every year – I knew that it was something I needed to do as an adult too.  I remember Mom washing windows and wiping down the walls of the house.  There wasn’t a surface in our home that was left untouched.

Spring Cleaning Tips and ways to get Organized too

Get Rid of the OLD

It’s also the time when we like to purge – getting rid of clothes that the kids have outgrown or don’t wear anymore.  Winter coats that won’t make it another season and boots that are pinching the toes.  I like to make a list of the items that I need to replace and watch for them during the “off” season so I can replace them when I find a sale. I love when I find that rack at Walmart with the hats and gloves that are on sale because we’re going into summer.

Spring Cleaning: Checklist and Cleaning Essentials

REPLACE and REFILL

Spring Cleaning week is also a great time to replace any burnt out lights and change the batteries in your smoke detectors.  I always add this to my Spring Cleaning Checklist so I’m sure that it gets done every year.

Another tip that I have for spring cleaning is to restock your cabinets.  Spring is a great time to make sure your cabinets are refilled with all the home essentials that you need.  We restock light bulbs, batteries, paper towels and even things like Febreze to keep the house smelling good all the time!

If you don’t have a good checklist to use, we’ve created this colorful Spring Cleaning Checklist for you to print out and use!  There’s a page with chores that we’ve added so you have some ideas and reminders of things to clean AND we have a blank checklist so you can customize your own.  Click on the image below to print out your own.

HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS

Having the right tools for cleaning is a huge part of the process.  I remember the first few years of marriage when I would start to clean and have a rag and all-purpose cleaning and think that I would just scrub everything down.  It worked out fine, but now I use a Cleaning Caddy with all the cleaning essentials together in one place so that I can just tote it from room to room with me.  We even use some of our own Homemade Cleaners like Homemade Sink Disposal Tabs.

I make a point of keeping Febreze SMALL SPACES & AIR on hand to either switch out the old or to just freshen up some of the rooms that got a little stale smelling over the winter. Febreze uses OdorClear technology to eliminate odors, not just cover them up

With a Meadows & Rain SMALL SPACES & AIR, you can eliminate odors and get your rain dance on. So go ahead: Enjoy the fresh, dewy scent of a rainy day—without ever getting wet.

It’s just nice to have everything totally cleaned and refilled going into the summer.  Let’s face it, summer is a really busy time when the kids are off school, sports, camping, vacations etc.  Just knowing that the house is cleaned and ready for summer is such a huge relief.

I have also been spring cleaning, i have boxed up clothes and shoes, cleaned out my cabinets, washed windows, blinds, cleaned closets, and cleaned my yards and got new flowers. It’s been a process of 3 weeks, but definitely worth it

I love spring cleaning my whole house but no matter what I try my 15 year old sons room always needs a little extra help. Febreze always helps but a plug in might help for a continuous fresh scent.

Spring cleaning is my favorite! The time to open up all the windows and let in fresh air and fresh scents. It’s also time to change the scents in the home to more floral and spring scents. Time to change the air fresheners, candles and oil scents, too. I can’t wait.
