The past few weeks I had been feeling the end of summer blues slowly creeping into our lives. The school supply lists arrived in the mail. School registration was opening and classroom lists were being posted. Even practice for fall sports had officially begun. I almost cried at the thought of our carefree summer days being numbered!
While feeling a bummed out and complaining about this realization, I received words of wisdom from my 11 year old. He basically told me to stop being a baby because summer was not over yet. And of course he was right (again). I decided the pity party was over. We needed to have some fun before the real world was back in full swing; we needed one last summer vacation!
I immediately started searching for last minute family fun that we could squeeze into our schedule before school started. I was so excited when I discovered there was a KOA Campground only a half an hour away! This would be exactly what we needed and perfect for our last summer vacation!
When we arrived I instantly fell in love with the cabins. They look like bright little beach cottages, all in different colors. Seriously, how cute are these cabins?
The inside was spacious and super cozy. We had no problem making ourselves at home!
And this beach! The boys had a blast swimming and playing in the sand for hours. While they did that I was able to read a book and work on my tan for some much needed relaxation!
On day 2 we headed to the Rental Shack to see what activities we could find. I was impressed with all of the options! They offered 4 person paddle boats, kayaks, banana bikes, paddle boards and water trikes along with a trained staff to teach you how to use everything and make recommendations!
Did I mention we also had an amazing waterpark right across the campground? This place is a dream come true for any kid!
I couldn’t believe everything KOA had to offer. During our stay I completely forgot that I was in Iowa let alone just miles away from home. Coming back to KOA Campgrounds will definitely become a tradition for us. There wasn’t a better way to end our fantastic summer!
