We are celebrating our Thanksgiving tomorrow with my Dad’s side of the family, I am hosting!! I love making Thanksgiving dinner, love!! I literally prepare for this meal for weeks in advance.
I have to say though, the absolute best part of the meal is the Turkey. I have not always felt this way though. BUT!! I found this amazing Turkey Brine and since I have started using it, I will never ever go back. People this is the ultimate in turkey recipes!!
This is where I got the recipe, Food network. I follow it almost exactly and it has worked every time.
And, I go by the little popper to let me know when the turkey is done. Simple!!!
So, I bake the turkey the day ahead. I know this isn’t for everyone, but it has always worked well for me. I slice it all up, put it in a cake pan and pour all of the juices that are left from cooking it on top. Just pop it in the fridge until tomorrow, when I stick it in and heat it back up. Seriously, easy and I don’t have to worry about it not being done in time or having to cut it up in front of all the company. I hate that mess!!
How to Make the Perfect Moist Turkey
Ingredients You Need
- 6 quarts tap water
- 1 pound kosher salt
- 1 cup Molasses
- 2 cups honey
- 1 cup soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon dried red pepper flakes
- 1 tablespoon dried Sage
- Large bunch fresh Thyme
- 2 heads garlic broken into individual cloves, unpeeled
- 5 pounds ice cubes
- 14 to 18-pound turkey, cleaned, innards removed
- 1 pound butter, softened
- 2 lemons, zested
Submerge the turkey, breast side down, in the brine.
Remove the bird from the brine and dry it thoroughly with thick (absorbent) kitchen towels.
This is the butter and lemon that you mix together and put between the actual meat and the skin.
