Tips for Camping with Kids
Last week I had the chance to meet up with a high school friend of mine at Cracker Barrel for lunch as a part of this sponsored post. We used to always meet there for these delicious egg sandwiches and the amazing hash brown casserole. I remember craving that casserole so much and every time we’d meet – it was always at Cracker Barrel!
This time was no exception – it was almost tradition for us to have our usual favorites but we decided to order a couple new things to try out, too. Am I the only one that orders a couple meals so that I can try new things but enjoy my old favorites?
I wanted to try out the new Campfire Meals, because they not only looked delicious but kind of fun, too. They were served in tin foil! Not only was it really, really yummy – It made me want to take my kids camping, too.
So, guess what we did – we went camping last weekend!
I love that Cracker Barrel is trying to help families bridge the gap with their new limited-time offer Campfire Meals! I can tell you that not only did I enjoy the meal but it really made me excited to plan our camping trip and get outside with my boys!
Camping is a lot of fun but there’s also some work that goes into making it run smoothly when you’re taking kids with you. I wanted to share some of my tips with you to hopefully make your camping experience enjoyable!
Tips for Camping with Kids
Camping with kids helps you create memories that they cannot get anywhere else. However, if you’re being honest with yourself, you know camping with kids can be difficult. It’s not as easy as camping by yourself. When you have kids, you really have to think twice about what you’re doing. These tips for camping with kids will basically rock your camping world.
Don’t forget the snacks- Let’s get real for a second. When you’re camping with kids, you are not going to get too far without having some snacks on board. If you plan on going camping with your kids, don’t forget the snacks! While you’re at it, grab some extra water for the kids, you are going to need lots of it!
Bring along some camping toys- You probably have the vehicle packed to the top with different things you need for your camping trip. But you might have forgotten one important thing. Your kids need camping toys to play with. I try not to bring along our really nice toys, we just pick up a few second hand toys to keep the happiness rolling with the kids.
Keep safety in mind- I know that you want to make camping an unforgettable thing for you and your kids, but don’t forget the important stuff. One VERY important thing is to remember safety is always first. Remember things like a life jacket while swimming or out on the lake. Keep a first aid kit on hand, in case anyone gets hurt. Also, keep a charged cell phone with you!
Bring along kid-friendly toiletries- When you’re camping as an adult, you can literally just grab a few things and go. When you are camping with kids, you need a few more things to make the experience more comfortable for everyone involved. Bring things like sunscreen and bug spray. You may also want to consider bringing wet wipes and even baby wipes. You can never be too prepared when you have kids.
Games and activities will save your sanity- Because kids are so overwhelmed with technology on a daily basis, they will get bored quickly. Bring along simple games and activities to keep the kids busy. You can even make a list of games the kids can play without any extra items needed.
Kick the routine to the side- One thing you should note that while camping, kids won’t necessarily keep their routine. While you can keep basic things the same, you may want to consider just going with the flow. When you’re not stressed, you and your family will have a whole lot more fun together.
Camping with your kids can be an unforgettable experience when you utilize these tips! What tips would you add to this list?
