Summer is here and it’s time to start enjoying the outdoors and this gorgeous weather in Iowa! Something we love to do as a family is camping, we try to go out as many weekends as we can during the summer months. I’ve learned several tips and tricks to making camping as a family easier so I put together this Ultimate Family Camping Guide to help you too! I hope it helps!
Make it your Home!
Make your camper/tent/ RV and whatever you’re using as much like home as possible! You can see above the photo of our camper, we have throw pillows, footstools, flowers, and even a white rooster that matches the one on my island at home! Every time I’m in this space I feel like I have our home with us.
Just because you’re camping doesn’t mean you have to use disposable plates, sleep on the ground and be miserable for the weekend. Create a space that you WANT to be in and makes you feel comfortable and happy!
Try to be organized!
I have a couple tips for being organized in a small space like a camper. First, I use bins and totes for EVERYTHING! Like these in the refrigerator, they have our condiments, bottled water, etc. I can easily pull them out when we get home and put them in our garage refrigerator until the next time we got out. No more fumbling with 20 different bottles, they’re all together and ready to move.
Have bins that the kids know are snacks they can grab on the go! We have one cabinet that is just for snacks, we try to keep individually packaged snacks so that we can easily grab them when we’re headed out to Kayak or hike.
Snyder’s-Lance has the perfect snack packs for on the go, so we like to stock up for our camping trips! These Single-serve sizes allow portion control and are convenient for tossing in the car or backpack for anytime snacking and each pack features a flavorful variety!
Last weekend when we were out with my nieces and nephews it was a full on fight over the “red bag” of chips in the package. They LOVED the BBQ flavor! I had to make a mental note to save these for them AND bring extras!!
There’s something that we will all love! I always make sure to grab a couple of these at Walmart when I’m getting our camping supplies!
Syder’s-Lance is available in four different packs for any preference!
Have fun and do something different!
We like to use a white sheet and make a DIY outdoor movie screen when we’re camping! We grab our lawn chairs and Snyder’s snacks and we’re ready to cozy in and watch a show under the stars!
My kids love camping because we’re always trying something different like this. It makes our time together more fun and we look forward to our next trip that much more because we try to think of new and fun adventures!
Campfire Food is always the best food!
We love to cook over the fire! If you scroll down you can see some of our favorite things to make over the fire! I promise that cooking over a campfire gives your meal so much more flavor and there’s just something about it that’s fun!
Tin Foil Packets – we like to make these lots of different ways! You can use hamburger and veggies, steak and veggies, homemade fries, nachos or million different recipes! I like to use the Nacho Chipotle chips and make nachos over the fire! They’re amazing!!
We rarely make dessert at home but when we’re out camping we make it every single night! This is our Grilled Peaches with a vanilla ice cream! It’s amazing! If you’re not a peach fan you can easily switch this up with just about any other fruit!
Check out the video below of our fun breakfast donut hole meal! They were so delicious and easy to make!
Get creative with the space!
Think outside the box/camper! You’ll be limited on space for not just your stuff but yourself too! Get creative with the space and use every single inch you can! We use hanging clothes dividers in the closet to separate our clothes for each person, the space under the couch for blow up mattresses and blankets, and even the space under the kitchen bench to store our vacuum and cleaning products! There’s not one single space in the camper that we’re not using every minute we’re out camping!
Have a fabulous time camping this summer! If you ever have questions or ideas on how to be organized or activities to do our camping, I love to hear from you! Drop me a comment below!
