Have you noticed that wanting a healthy lifestyle and actually having a healthy lifestyle are two very different things? Most of my life I was the person who wanted the healthy lifestyle and was envious of the people who actually had it.
I am not saying that I was the picture of unhealthy but there were definitely things that I needed to improve on. I wanted to improve not just for me, also for my entire family. One of the biggest areas I knew we needed to improve on was unplugging and getting our butts outdoors more!
However, I did not realize just how much we needed become more active until partnering with Humana.
Humana sponsors the National Geographic quiz to test Nature Engagement Levels (N.E.L.s). How perfect?! Now I could see exactly where we were and how much we need to make a change to increase our N.E.L.s!
Let me tell you, taking the quiz was a true eye opener!
I officially knew that we had become sucked in by the hustle and bustle of everyday busy life. We were neglecting to take the time we needed to for nature and the outdoors. Changes had to me made!
Immediately we started carving out time every day be active outdoors. The changes made such an impact! I started to feel more energized and happier overall.
When we decided to plan our family vacation I wanted to incorporate our new lifestyle change. I wanted to get away from the busy life to relax and breathe.
We decided to head to Canada. It was absolutely breathtaking. We had zero cell phone reception or wi-fi (which would have caused me great stress in the past). You can’t get any more unplugged than that!
We went hiking and fishing everyday. We would sit around a campfire each night roasting marshmallows and telling stories. I can honestly say it was the best family vacation we have had. There is nothing better than being in touch with nature and each other!
Humana encouraged me to make the changes my family needed! They are sponsoring the National Park Service’s Centennial Year and celebrating the health benefits of the National Parks by encouraging everyone to get out and active in the parks!
Take the National Geographic quiz, sponsored by Humana, to check you and your families Nature Engagement Levels! Then, find a park near you!
