This week was so exciting!
I continued into week three of my photography course with Sear’s Grilling and I got
to head out to Sear’s and purchase my grill!
The hubby and I decided on this gorgeous Char-Broil TRU Infared four burner beauty,
you can see my path to purchase photos on THIS post.
This week in our photography course, our assignment was to put the grill in an outdoor location and take photographs in natural lighting. We also learned about bounce cards. A bounce card creates fill light to bring out detail in the shadow of the object. This was really interesting, but I definitely need more practice with this skill. Using light correctly in my photo’s seems to be something that I need to learn and work more with. I usually have too much light or not enough, I can’t find that perfect middle ground.
Here are some of the pictures that I took this week of my new grill!
This unit has four burners that put out 40,000 BTUs and reach temperatures around 700 degrees F.
Each burner comes with its own temperature gauge located above the control knob that reads the heat at grate level for accuracy.
Here are some of the tips that I learned in our lesson this week:
Experiment with a bounce card to add fill light to the grill
Use the lower aperture setting if possible, this will make the background softer and allow the grill to stand out!
Optical zoom is when the lens does the zooming instead of the software simply cropping.
Experiment by photographing the subject in an area that isn’t getting direct sunlight. {Gotta work on this one alot}
Here are a couple pictures that I “staged” of the grill. It is easy to see how having too much in the pictures is distracting from the object your photographing.
I am so excited for next weeks lesson and put more of what I have learned to work! Thank you to Sears Grilling for this amazing opportunity!

wow every week I see such an improvement on your pictures. I love your angles I can not wait to see what you do next week!!!
I love the griddle shots – such awesome details
Great pictures! The props you used are awesome, can't wait to see what you cook up on your new grill. 🙂
Love…love….love the photo with the food! Great job this week on your photos, they look amazing!
Oh those photos of the food you about to grill are great! I was hoping the next shot should be grilling the food, but I know we can't 🙂
Oh gosh, no no no. Hehe, I mean that we are not up to the grilling part of the class yet :):) Sorry for misunderstanding 🙂
I love all the angles and lighting of your photos! I tried to play with a bounce card but had no real luck. I am going to keep practicing though. I also love how you staged a couple of the photos…even if they do take the focus off the grill itself. How creative!
Thanks, Kecia! 🙂
Chrissy, what an awesome grill! I know your staged pictures take the focus off the grill, but they sure look good. It's going to be so fun to see what everyone cooks!
I agree, I can't wait to get cookin!
Your pictures are getting so much better!! Great job this week!
Thanks, Mallery!
