Weekend Getaway in Cedar Rapids

June 29, 2016   |   Leave a Comment

My family and I recently moved back to Iowa and even though I grew up very close to Cedar Rapids, I’d never really taken the time to explore and enjoy the town until this year.  I had no idea that there were so many things for families to do and see, so I was thrilled to partner with Go Cedar Rapids for a couple days of fun with my family.

I wanted to share just a couple things that you can do when you visit, trust me there’s so much more to do an see beyond this list though!  You can head over to Go Cedar Rapids for a full list of everything you can find.

Weekend Getaway to Cedar Rapids!

We started by exploring the area, there’s a tribute to Grant Wood’s American Gothic with 25 Life-sized statues of the Gothic couple all around Cedar Rapids and beyond.  We found a grouping of them downtown near the Cedar Rapids Public Library.  You can find a map with all the locations at Croveralls.com.

When you’re exploring at the library downtown be sure to check out the park just out front of the library.  There’s several paths to stroll down and places to sit and enjoy the weather.  Across the street from the library we found a bench to sit and watch the trains pass by.  My boys LOVED it!

If you have children another place your kids might like to visit is AirFx, it’s Iowa’s largest Trampoline park!  They’re sure to have hours of fun!

We also had the chance to take in a Kernal’s baseball game, it was actually the first time my boys had been to a baseball game and they loved it.  We had to stay for all of the innings so they could watch and see who won.

If you’re in Cedar Rapids and looking for some affordable family fun, this is the place to go.  You’ll be outside enjoying the beautiful Iowa summer weather and watching a fabulous team too! My youngest keeps asking when we can go again!  He loved it!

Weekend Getaway to Cedar Rapids!

Two of our favorite restaurants in Cedar Rapids.  This need to be added to your MUST have list, right away!  I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Need Pizza – guys the name says it all!  You really NEED this pizza!  We had a delicious chicken and mushroom pizza with white sauce and it was to die for!  You can create any type of pizza you want by selecting from the delicious toppings and creating your own masterpiece.

Brewhemia – Not only does this restaurant serve amazing food like these warm cinnamon rolls topped with a sweet frosting, but the building is just plain cool.  There’s things to look at in ever corner, it’s such a happy and fun environment too.  I’d have to say that this is one of my favorite restaurants for breakfast ever.  It’s so good.

Weekend Getaway to Cedar Rapids!

If you’re looking for a great place to stay in Cedar Rapids, we enjoyed the Cedar Rapids Marriott.  There’s just something about being in a really nice hotel when you’re traveling that makes you feel at home.  This is just the place to stay!

If you’re located in Iowa, Cedar Rapids should be on your list of places to visit for sure!  With all the different outdoor activities plus many different inside things like the library, art museum, etc.  There’s plenty to keep busy and have a good time!

Where’s your next vacation stop going to be this summer?
