When Life Gives you Lemons #PostCFK

Make a Lemonade Stand!
Let me start this post by telling you how incredibly proud of my boys I am.  They wanted to have a lemonade stand this summer and when Mom asked them how they felt about using the money that they made to give to kids in need, they didn’t hesitate!  We decided to participate in a service project with Post Bowls of Hope Buy 2, Give 1 and Champions For Kids.

You can read my initial post on this idea over HERE and our shopping trip for the supplies on Google+

We picked a really hot day to have the lemonade stand and I worried
that the boys would give up but they really surprised me!

This guy thought he was in charge of the stand, since he had the Lemonade apron!  He is such a silly kid!

We made a delicious lemonade.  I will share the recipe with you soon, it is so cool and refreshing during the summer!

Here is there stand.  They sold their lemonade, Fruity Pebble  cereal Bars, Suckers and Marshmallow poles.

If you haven’t made Fruity Pebble Treats they are so easy and delicious!
We put them in little bags with tags that charged $0.50 a bar.

My kiddos were amazing!  They sat out in the 95 degree heat for three hours and sold lemonade to the neighbors and people that went by.  My little guy had a speech about how they were using the money that they earned to buy food to donate to a local food pantry because they wanted to help child hunger in our area.

Facts from Champions for Kids Website:

Did You Know?
• When school lets out for the summer, millions of low-income children lose access to the school breakfasts, lunches and after-school snacks they receive during the regular school year.
• Only 1 out of 6 children who receive free or reduced-price meals during the school year continue to receive meals during the summer months.
• Low-income families with children face even more challenges during the summer when they stretch their food budget to provide additional meals for their children.
• The most recent national study of food insecurity found that 5.6 million American families accessed emergency food from a food pantry at least once in 2009.

My boys were able to buy 10 boxes of Post Cereal with their earnings!  Maybe that doesn’t sound like alot but if you think about the fact that those ten boxes of cereal will provide an average of 14 servings, that will go a long ways in helping kids!
The  morning after the lemonade stand we headed to Walmart and the boys picked out the boxes of cereal they wanted to donate.

Who knew you could have so much fun with boxes of cereal?!

They were so proud of themselves and I cannot tell you what a proud Mommy I am.  They worked so hard and didn’t complain at all or want to keep the money they earned for themselves! We donated the boxes of cereal to a local food pantry in the town next to us.  It is such a great feeling to be able to help people who really need it!
