It is a technology driven world so I don’t mind the kids spending some time each day learning how to navigate and master laptops, tablets, and even occasionally my phone. I encourage educational apps and games as much as possible but recognize we also all need some down time, sometimes it comes in the form of videos ( and if said videos happen to be be educational too I really don’t mind letting the kids get their daily technology time.
My kids have discovered a whole new genre of videos where toys are unboxed, played with, redressed, and so much more- and they are hooked? If you have little ones who are YouTube savvy you know exactly the ones I am talking about, right? They also enjoy watching clips of their favorite video games, music videos, and snippets of loved television shows. What I don’t love is that sometimes adult content is not filtered at all, so it is very easy for them to stumble upon things they shouldn’t see.
YouTube has a new channel that is targeted at children YouTube Kidsand contains filters that block out most “adult” content. Personally, I still monitor everything my little ones watch but it does bring about a peace of mind that I needn’t hover over their shoulder to turn the phone or tablet off should something inappropriate flash on.
