Double Chocolate Sweetheart Donuts

February 6, 2014   |   1 Comment

What’s better than chocolate donuts? How about Double Chocolate Sweetheart Donuts that are topped with lots of sprinkles? Just in time for Valentine’s Day, we have another sweet treat recipe that your kids are going to go nuts over.

These turned out so cute and delicious, my hubby even thought they were store bought! Yep, seriously, he asked if I just added the sprinkles and I am not complaining about that question at all. I was really excited that he thought they were pretty enough to be in a store.

These double chocolate donuts are not just for Valentine’s Day though, you can make them any time of the year to enjoy!

How to make Homemade Double Chocolate Donuts

Ingredients

  • 1 Pillsbury Chocolate Cake Mix (make according to package instructions)
  • 1 Package CandiQuik
  • Valentine Sprinkles

You will also either need a Babycakes Donut maker or a donut pan for the oven.

Instructions

Step 1 – Mix up the cake according to the package instructions

Step 2 – I used the Babycakes Donut maker and put about 2 tablespoons of the batter in each donut area, enough to fill it up.  Be sure to spray pam on BOTH sides of the machine, it’s like a waffle iron and needs to be greased on both sides so the donuts come out ok.

Step 3 – Melt the CandiQuik while you have a donuts cooking, follow the package instructions

Step 4 – Dip one side of each donut into the CandiQuik and add the sprinkles on top.

These donuts are really light and fluffy because you are using a cake mix.  I hate to admit but I snarfed down about 10 of them in no time flat.

If you don’t own a BabyCakes Donut maker you can use a donut pan to make them instead.  They bake up like a muffin or cupcakes.

You can also adjust these for any holiday by changing which sprinkles you use on them, they would make a fun birthday morning breakfast with some multi colored sprinkles!
