Homemade Electrolyte Popsicles

April 18, 2017   |   Leave a Comment

A sick little one is heartbreaking for mommas when they can barely even drink due to a sore throat or constant throwing up its even worse. But during those times its more important than ever to keep them hydrated so they can get well.  My kids are not fans of the store bought electrolyte drinks and there is just too much sugar in sports drinks so I decided to create my own and take it a step further.

My kids are not fans of the store bought electrolyte drinks and there is just too much sugar in sports drinks so I decided to create my own and take it a step further.

Homemade Electrolyte Popsicles are just the trick when little faces are flushed and tummies are rebelling. It gives them the fluids and electrolytes they need to fight off whatever has a hold of them. But you know what? These are also great for really hot summer days when the kids are working up a sweat and much better than most of what you could buy at the store.

You will need:

2 1/2 cups coconut water

3 tsp. flavored jello powder

1/8 tsp. sea salt

Directions:

Warm coconut water in the microwave for 20-30 seconds, this will help the salt and jello dissolve a little easier. You can use any flavor of jello that your kids like to get them taking in fluids and the natural electrolytes in coconut water as well as the sea salt.

Add jello powder and sea salt to water and whisk briskly to combine well, it will take a couple minutes.

Pour mixture into popsicle molds like these cute monster ones that my kids love or these Tovolo Monster Pops Mold This recipe will fill 6 of these but you can easily cut it in half.

Place in freezer for 3-4 hours until solid.

The recipe can also be used as a drink but the cold popsicles feel so good with a sore throat or fever that my kiddos prefer them that way. What is your kiddos favorite gelatin powder flavor? Give it a try in these homemade electrolyte popsicles next time they are under the weather.
