Homemade Biscuits from Scratch

June 23, 2016   |   Leave a Comment

Growing up, most of our family dinners consistently had one item on the table, Homemade Biscuits from Scratch. Nothing hit the spot like warm biscuits fresh out of the oven!

Delicious and Easy to make Homemade Biscuits from Scratch!

To be honest, I forgot about the beloved Homemade Biscuits from my childhood until I recently volunteered to host a large family dinner and started to do my menu prep.

Let’s just say they were as big of a hit now as they were years ago! My boys fought over the last one just like my brothers and I used to do. I felt a little guilty that I have been depriving my own boys of this scrumptious staple to dinner. Especially when they (including my husband) asked me why the heck I haven’t been making these everyday!

Needless to say, this recipe is definitely going into the weekly dinner rotation! Because of how simple this recipe is and the fact you most likely already have the ingredients right in your cupboard, you are going to love it! But most of all, you will love that little taste of the past!

Check it out!

How to Make Homemade Biscuits from Scratch

Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 Tbls sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 4 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp cream of tartar
  • ¾ cup COLD butter
  • 1 egg
  • 1 cup milk

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  2. Combine the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter to cut the butter in. You should see small, pea sized pieces of butter throughout the dough
  3. Add in the milk and egg and mix just until the ingredients are combined.
  4. Turn the dough out onto a generously floured surface. Sprinkle some flour on to the top of dough and knead 10-15 times. Add more flour if needed.
  5. Roll the dough out to ¾ – 1 inch thickness and cut with a biscuit cutter or glass. Place the biscuits on a lightly greased baking sheet and bake for 10-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  6. Makes 10-12 biscuits.
